OT: Gary Gygax

A minute of silence

In a sad day for all roleplayers in the world, Gary Gygax, inventor of Dungeons and dragons, passed away yesterday at the age of 69. His visions paved the way for todays acceptance of RPGs and supplied me (though not an D&D player) with countless hours of enjoyment, long days and longer nights with my friends and an outlet for my creativity.

I am now officially retiring my 'lucky' D6 in his honour. My first roll in my upcoming RPG session will be made with a symbolic black D10.


May he rest in peace.

Although I haven't played in absolute ages I was very saddened to hear this. I am working on some pieces (I paint and shoot photos) for the upcoming Conglomeration, a pretty popular convention held here in Louisville, KY. I certainly feel compelled to add an additional piece devoted to the legend himself.

Currently dusting off my first editions and moving them up on a more prominent shelf in my small but packed library.

I am sure that Mr. Gygax is hosting many sessions of gaming with numerous "Deities & Demigods" in what ever realm he has landed.

Apologies for the appearance of threadjacking with remainder of this post. I believe a good table-based RPG is both the best possible social game and potentially an art form of its own. Gygax was an important figure and he helped make a lot of fun possible for me.

That said, why is there an ad in this thread that's invisible after you sign in? I signed in to flag it, but can't see it. In a separate browser, I tried this topic and I see the ad, but I can't flag it wihtout signing in.

Has there been a policy change at Stardock, or can we get this stuff cleaned out of the forums?

Actually this topic can be moved to any thread since *every* thread displays this behavior. I suggest the Change to Forum Format thread. I'll take my own advice and make my response there.
