travel between star systems

Ok, for starters I'm willing to conceed that I'm a moron so it won't be necessary for anyone else to point it out. That being said, I have a problem,  I cannot figure out how to travel from one star system to another. I'm playing a massive single player game (as the Vasari) with 6 different star system. My Allies and enemies congegate at  stars and quickly jump to another star constantly, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do it. I have the majority of techs researched a huge fleet and have pretty much mastered every aspect of this game save one...I can't exit my starting star system! Please help! Thanks.

There should be a tech that's called long jump or something along those lines.
As a description it'll say you can jump faster between stars or something.
it's under civilian.

anyway, you just select your troops at the star, and right click a different star, and they'll line up and jump to it.

What about worm holes? Same? I thought there's another for that. Problem is, what if you're at planet X and want to get to Y? Will it automatically send you through the worm hole next to you or reroute all the way through a bunch of planets?

Wormhole travel requires a wornhole-specific tech to be researched. Or you can send explorers out on one of your planets and they MIGHT find ancient wormhole technology.

I always seem to get the artifact after I've researched the tech... :(

Anyways, wormhole travel is instantaneous. You can't choose where it will send you.

It's best to send scouts through wormholes first before sending your main fleet, then deciding if that's the route you wanna take. ;)

I remain puzzled that Stardock/Ironclad decided that this was not worth mentioning in the "manual".
