Scroll Wheel Doesn't Work.

Scroll Wheel Doesn't Work.

First off I want to apologize if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything when I was searching the archives.

I just bought SoaSE last weekend and I am enjoying the game, however as the title states the scroll wheel on my mouse does not work for zooming in and out forcing me to use the V and B keys which I find to be a bit cumbersome.  I have verified that the Scroll Wheel works as it affects other applications and games just fine, only Sins seems to not be able to register any inputs.

Has anyone else experienced this?  And if so what was the steps to get a solution?

If it would be helpful in diagnosing things, the mouse I have is a Kensington PilotMouse Optical Pro and I have the Kensington drivers installed in a Windows XP environment.

Do you have mouse software installed for your mouse type? Some extra friendly Logictec or MS software that allows you to scroll through the index of something or other and/or use the middle mouse button to activate a tool? If so try taking it out and see if that works.

Seabass.... thanks for your response.

No, I am not aware of any app. software that makes special use of the middle scrolling wheel on the mouse. And, scrolling works fine with Excel, Word, the Internet's Yahoo, World of Warcraft, Everquest II.... basically, this game is the only software that does not recognize the scroll wheel.

Seems to me it's probably something on the SoSE side, especially reading this thrread and the verious other users experiencing the same problem.

I hope SoSE's devs take a close look....

We forwarded on a few things from customers to them, as well as a few reports and trouble tickets from the larger names in human user devices. I'm certian it is a big concern but I, of course, cannot speak on their behalf. They are good peoples, even better gamers.

In the mean time you can start up a ticket with us at support@stardock.com. We can always search your situation for the answer.

Well I have a Rocketfish mouse (Yes I know, but the price was right and I needed a tailless mouse right away). I too had scrolling problems in game but no where else. I still had Logitech drivers and mouse software installed from previous mouse in addition to Rocketfish software. I unistalled both and am now using the Windows mouse utility. Scroll function works in game now. This might not be a viable option for those that use extra buttons on thier mouse. Hopefully this helps others.

As of right now most additional external commands are working. For instance I have a programmable speed pad that now functions on the seconday machine. You should be able to use mutliple buttons on your mouse and keybaord external features. This is under the latest updates of course.

I just downloaded 1.05 and scroll wheel still does not work, making the game unplayable. Scroll wheel works just fine in Everquest2, in World of Warcraft, and in all my normal desktop apps..... just not in this game.

Please fix this!

making the game unplayable
End of quote

Even if the wheel won't work, you can still zoom via the keyboard (Z/X/C are preset zoom levels, V/B to zoom in and out).

Kryo... you are right of course, one could use the V and B keys, but.... it'ts very hard to control the amount of zoom so you end up zooming WAY out, and then trying to zoom in SOME.... opps... too much... then zoom out just a little bit... opps...... etc. etc.

Now.... add this to trying to learn how to play this game, and it seems zooming is pretty common, so not being able to use the clicks of the mouse wheel to control the zoom makes the game not playable, at least for me.

Hopefully expanded mouse wheel support will be added at some point.

I've had this happen to me intermittently, but never regularly or predictably. Just exitting the game and starting it again resolves the problem for me, and it never returns except on fresh starts. I'm using a pretty generic logitech laser mouse, no bells or whistles. I wish I had some technical insight to offer, but the best I've got is "It's very weird."

Last post on this issue was August of 2008....

For me the game is not playable without being able to use the scroll wheel on the mouse, so the game is just gathering dust ATM.

So perhaps someone in the tech. department (Seabass?) could comment on whether or not Impulse has fixed this problem in a patch?  Other games work fine, so it seems like a Sins issue to me.

I tried to search this forum for "scroll" and "scrolling" and "mouse" to see if there is any updated information available and got no results for any of those criteria.

Thanks response...../Scruffies

I have had the same problem in the past. One minute it would be working then it would stop and then some time later it would work again for a bit. Sorry but I personally haven't found a work around.

I have this problem, too. My HP bluetooth mouse won't scroll. Well, actually it scrolls a little, but not enough to be remotely useful. I try to scroll, and it zooms a tiny, tiny bit. Like if you have a scout taking up the whole screen and zoom out with the mouse, the scout will take up 11/12ths of the screen. I've messed around with the settings, but to no avail.

I've gotten used to using V/B to zoom in/out, but I would really like to go back to using my scroll wheel.

And if it helps, I'm using a laptop.

BTW, my computer is a Dell XPS710 desktop running XP.  The mouse is the Premium Opitcal Mouse and the driver is the generic driver that loads with XP from microsoft.  WoW, EQ2, LOTRO games all work fine with my mouse scroll button.   Sins does not.

How about it Tech. Support?

Just in case anyone is still subscriber to this thread or you've trawled the interwebs looking for a solution (like I did). I found something that sort of works with regards to the synergy mouse wheel problem.

Before starting Sins, plug in the mouse you intend to use. make sure it's all working (drivers installed etc). Start the game. Once loaded, unplug the mouse and connect it to the machine running the synergy server. Mouse wheel then worked.

Right mouse drag (to change angle) was still over sensitive for whatever reason, but as my mouse is the MS sidewinder X8, I can easily change the sensitivity with the three level buttons if I want to change angle).

I'd guess that when Sins starts it locks onto what driver it is using and is unaware that the mouse has been disconnected and attached from another location. It's odd, but it DOES work. Admitidly you would need to do this every time you play, but when you play long sessions at a time, I guess it's worth it, assuming you still want to be able to control your synergy server machine to do other things (control music, chat on im, twitter etc).
