Sins problems

Is it me, or is the game buggy?

I've been play ing Gal Civ for a couple years and have  some game play problems with that as well...  But after playing Sins for a week I can't get my population to go up, no matter what I do....   No matter what Civ I play,  planet upgrades don't have any effect on population, and the further I go the more my credit income plummets.   Is this a common game bug?   Is there a patch to download?  Should I reinstall?   Other than this, and the habit of my cursor freezing, the game is very engaging.  I only playing against the AI, and would like to play online once I can get the hang of this.

Are you upgrading the planets' infrastructure instead of the population? The one you need to upgrade population is the first button on the planet upgrades menu. There are also some research items that increase the maximum population on all planets of a certain type by a percentage.
