Volitile Nanites - not getting the gfx

I could be wrong but this is what Volitile Nanites is supposed to look like correct?

I get none of that cool effects when I fire mine off. Got me thinking, what other effects am I missing out on. Any idea how to fix this?

Are you missing any other particle effects in that game (ships shooting but no bullets seen, etc)?

Myself, I occasionally have times where nothing fired actually appears -- the sound effects for firing are still there, and damage is dealt, but no projectiles go flyin' 'round. Sort of amusing, but also sort of irritating.

Sadly, I have no idea why.
