What is that powerful 'red worm' in space?

It basically destroys everything in the universe and my ships are no match for it. How do I prevent that pest from appearing out of nowhere? The best ship I can get before every lose is battleship. Is there any ship better than it? Sometimes a race appear out of nowhere and with one powerful ship as powerful as the 'red-worm'. How did they get that ship? By searching?

Ahh the worm. It's one of the monsters. I got the shark myself. The shark pretty much runs through, does what it wants, But it's so slow it takes about 15 turns before it actually gets anything. I park a ship just within its attraction range but it just can't quite get to it. It keeps chasing that ship around. You have to be careful to stay away from starbases and such or it smacks them instead of going after your ship. But it repairs itself mega slow and you can wear it down. Try it on your worm. It may work like it's worked on the shark for me.

have never had the pleasure of seeing the space monster but i heard one of the best things to do is make it follow a ship but lead it into and enemy empire.

The peculiar thing is, I've had the red worm show up in a couple of games, but I've never had an encounter up close with it. Maybe it was too far away from me (I like to play on gigantic maps).

They pop out of the Space Zoo if you get that from the UP election. I got three of them. They did clear out a couple of Altarian starbases from that sector.

LMAO the space Zoo!!!!??? I'll have to remember that. I just wish you could control what they are voting on. hehe.

Mine just came at random I think.

I remember mine coming from a space zoo as well. They broke out of the zoo, and really started tearing stuff up. :(

Ah, yes, the zoo. Someone else got that in my last game and those 3 sharks were keeping two empires begging for help. Luckily, the things were far away from my empire and the other two guys were so kind enough to keep luring them back into their own space with ineffective attacks. I just several large task forces at the 3 beasts every few turns until I wore them down. Of course, playing version 1.2 I used Battlehammers. Those non-nerfed BHs sure are nasty. ;)

For some reason I've had to deal with a lot of these in my games. They can only move one square. Build a star base with the tech that restricts enemy movement by 1. This freezes their movement. Can't take credit for this idea - read it on one of the forums. In an election vote to strategically put the zoo in a place that will really screw at least one alien civ if/when the monsters escape. Incidentally these red worm like things appear in the ship panel as Rouge Monsters but I bet it should be ROGUE monsters!

Voting? Space zoo? Wait... you get some bonus for placing it in your galaxy, no? CRAP, I've always voted for myself! :D

The Prison is another one. The prisoners riot and escape with three BattleCruisers. It's not so bad once you've got something that can handle that.

Hmm, do you suppose that if you have a good Luck score (like, +25%), it seriously reduces the chance of a Zoo or Prison breakout. Considering the bonuses you can get from them, it might be worth it.

Since you get the Zoo and Prison from a UP issue, do they go away after so many years, like all the other issues?

Yep, Freddybear... but those three Battlecruisers can effectively choke your empire to death if the best ships you've got are Corvettes... had that happen to me early in a game. Killed all my trade routes, and ruined my economy.

As for the worms, I've not seen them yet... odd.

I've managed to avoid getting the Prison early in the game. They should get better stuff when they break out if you've got Dreadnoughts. Wait, I didn't say that... ;)

"Since you get the Zoo and Prison from a UP issue, do they go away after so many years, like all the other issues?".

When they are destroyed. Try to lure them to your enemies with one of your fastest ships.

I've had the zoo and the prison in my empire a few times now, they've never escaped or rioted on me. I guess I'm just lucky :)

I once gave the prison to my worst enemy, and they happily took it. It took 10 years for the riot to occur, but it ruined them. LOL

they also love scout ships on toast with a little drengin jelly :-) have it chase your scout as it keeps ahead of it while leading it away from your area and into an area of a race you aren't particulary fond of. Does wonders for the morale of your people as it eats yor starbases :_)

Dreadnaughts will kill the monsters. Last game I got stuck with the zoo. Immediately switched my priorities to research to Dreadnaught tech as fast as possible. When the monters got loose, it was pretty easy to kill them.

Definitely lead them to your enemy. This was effective with wolves in Age of Empires...
