governor changes projects?

This has gotten distinctly bothersome, and its been happening with the latest update too.

The governor of some planet or other will randomly start building one of the capitals if I don't get it built really early. I tend to wait on building them until rather later in the game when I can really take a look at the planets I have and decide which ones to put them on.

They sometimes do this when I'm in the middle fo building another building, I'll be one turn from finishing my economic exchange on the planet and they will have changed to the manufacturing capital. Its really annoying since I sometimes don't even notice until they have completed building it... and at that point I'd have to go back to the saved game. And since on higher AIs you really can't just waste production without having to face the conequences later...

Its really just annoying. Is it something I've done? I have autobuild on but you need that for the governors to function... and I have governors don't switch special prjects... so I don't know.

Rain,

There is an option in the game setup screen called "GNN Report(s) over-rides Governor". If you have this enabled, anytime you discover a tech which unlocks a new social improvement, the Governors will automatically switch to it if it is considered better than their current assignment.

I do not know the paradigm for this decision, as I never play with it "on". I believe you can disable (uncheck) it at any time in the game, though.

One small consolation is, your planet never loses its production progress on anything it was previously working on. Therefore, you can switch off, say "Medical Centers", go to "Shipyards", and then come back to the Med Centers when the latter is complete, and you will be right where you left off. So (aside from the order/time factor) you haven't lost anything.

I have seen a related problem. :( I have GNN reports off, I tell a planet to develop a trade good or capital I come back a little later and find that the planet has switched to something else that was in the governor's queue. This seems to be a problem any time you add new items to the governor’s queue or reload a saved game. Oddly, If I add an item to the governor’s queue at a high priority he always seems to finish the low priority project it is working on first (he won't interrupt his own builds, only mine) I now need to check each planet to find out which one was building the trade good and has it partially finished.
The workaround is to change governors to one with nothing in his queue. Of coarse then I forget to change it back and I find my planet building nothing at all later on.
I think the governor should ask before he changes what he is working on.
By the way, why do social project remember their progress but with military project the progress can be can be transferred at the last second.

This happened to me again several times last nite. Will check out my prefs (never enabled changes to be made in queue) will report back.

Is it really true that progress is not lost on a social project even when project is changed--I believe (and respect)def zep, just want to be sure as this will calm me down a bit and will change my strategy.

Yes, you do not lose the work you have so far on a social project. By the way, I have never had the governor choose or change a project, ever. It builds what I tell it to build.

If you change priority, it will continue to build what it is currently building until you go into the planet screen and click details. This reset the governor queue.

I am still having the problem. On wierd things too.

First my setting are:

gov overrides projects (off)
active gov ignores GNN (on)

Randomly my planets will switch to a lower priority build. Sometimes in the middle of something important like a trade good... Sometimes it switches to one of the capitals randomly.

I don't understand... what I am seeing is that is it ussually my more productive older planets.. the ones where I am watching the production more closely... but this is hardly a rule, it sometimes happens on some of my new planets as well.

Seems to happen less with the most recent build but I don't know.

Get back to me if you can.

Do you accidentally build Economic Capitals all the time but never Technological or Manufacturing Capitals? One thing that often happens to me is that when I double click on a planet from the main map view, the second mouse click will be passed through into the planetary management screen. If my mouse happened to be over the military or social build queue, it will then select a new project for my planet even though I did not intend for that to occur. There is a distinct click sound to remind you when projects are changed, but it's easy to miss that with the other click sound of opening the planetary management screen. Very annoying bug at times. Hope it's fixed by next path.

The only reason it should stop building a trade good, wonder, or capital is if one has already been built. The governor will automatically select the highest priority object from your queue if the aliens build the trade good before you do and it's taken out of your queue.

Could that be what's happening?

CariElf,

No the trade good was not built yet. I am always able to select it again and pick up where I left off. Bonscott mentioned going to the detail screen as reseting the build queue. I noticed this also; I set production to a trade good, move to detail screen and change governor to an empty queue, go back to main and have to reset the trade good selection. I still think reloading games also resets the queue.

I think that Scott fixed the reset problem when going to the planet details screen for 1.04 beta. I'll check into the reloading, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't.
