Top Ten Reasons Why I Should be a Cop

1. I think on my feet and take charge of situations when the situation calls for it.

2. I would be able to exercise my authoritative and leadership gifts.

3. I don't get grossed out easily, or involve emotions unless I specifically intend to, so handling grotesque and gruesome situations wouldn't bother me like it would some people.

4. Helping people has always made me feel good, and getting paid for it wouldn't be all that horrible.

5. I like working with other people, and this would be a good way to do it.

6. I could get by with more than the average citizen. Driving 30 over... wait, I do that anyway. ;)

7. I'm not cut out for the 8-hours-a-day-in-a-cubicle type thing.

8. I'd get a kick ass belt!

9. I think I would appreciate every day of life a little bit more.

10. I'd be pretty damn hot in uniform.

Feel free to add to my list if you think of anymore. Feel free to go against anything I said, as well. :)

I'll start at the top and work my way down...

1)  That's a necessity.  If you can do it, use that talent.

3) That's a plus, but there will be things that make even you sick.  Like decapitations, or the smell of decomposing/burning human flesh.  Those are things that made even me gag...things that you never forget.  Ever.

6) If anything, you get by with less than the average citizen, because people look to you to uphold the law in your own life before you go enforce it in someone elses.

7) Be prepared for a 14+ hour day in car, or on a scene.  Shifts don't always end when they're supposed to, because shit happens and you have to go (or stay, as the case may be)

8) My belt was cool.  Dave's belt is cooler because he has an Asp - I had one towards the end but never got to use it.

10) Yeah!  I got told I looked hot in uniform too....all I know is that I was hot in uniform.  Kevlar doesn't breathe well, dig?

6) I know... I was just kidding. It absolutely pisses me off when I see cops going 10+ over just for the hell of it. I see it a lot especially when they're not in their squad cars, but I look over and see someone in uniform behind the wheel.

7) I understand that fully. I was just saying that I wouldn't be able to handle being in a cubicle 8 hours a day, like a lot of people are. So being albe to be in action a lot of the time would be good for me.

8/10) I didn't know you were an officer. When/where? I'd be interested to hear some of your stories. Where did you go to college?

Thanks for the comments, as always, they're appreciated.

I hope you love hours of paperwork too, and documenting every moment of your shift.....

3. My buddy Sangus worked for awhile as a Forensics Photographer, as kind of a summer job/internship bit while he was in high school. His two worst stories were:
A) The decomposing body that was found in the woods. He had to (try to) photograph it during the autopsy. Vomitted everywhere when they sliced it open... the smell.
B) The crazy-ass bitch who lit her car on fire to spite her husband... with their two kids still inside. He took the pictures of that at the scene.

Other than that...

Good luck with your pursuit of this job. My dad (and granddad) were cops, too, my maternal uncle a state trooper. I have the utmost respect for law enforcement types (at least the ones I can give the benefit of the doubt with regards to their integrity).

Edit: Almost forgot... #10's a good a reason as any, too.

lol. ups and downs to every job. I don't mind paperwork that much. I'm sure it'll be tiring at times, though.

Good luck with your pursuit of this job

I've worked in a jail around cops for 10 1/2 years. Police work is a low paying suck ass job and everybodys out to get you. Even working in the jail is better. Take my advice and think of something else.

Let's see, there's also:

You love doughnuts.
You enjoy telling people what to do.
You're looking to start a collection of bad excuses and obvious lies.
You like being exposed to the scum of society.
You can't wait to take advantage of the opportunities to go on the take.
You don't mind being accused of brutality and excessive violence when you did as much as possible to avoid hurting someone.

This is why I think all sexy women should be cops. Then again, it'd probably increase the crime rate. I know I'd be doing anything to get their atttention.

I wasn't a sworn officer.  I worked sec. enf and went through a lot of the PD's training...worked with the PD most of the time.  I was armed (that's why I wore Kevlar), and yes, I have stories.  I have 3 arrests under my belt, assisted on one felony arrest (I called him in and stuck with the guy on the interstate until the HP picked his dumb ass up - they found 3 lbs of speed on him) and I've tackled and taken down one person who was assaulting an officer.  That was an adrenaline rush, I can tell ya.  I was walking around feeling like queen of the world after that one!  It was really very entertaining....I loved working with the PD and riding with them, it was cool.  When I spoke, people had to listen, or there would be consequences...gotta love that. I've caught a faceful of mace.....yeah, you want to avoid doing that if you can.... I've been to crime scenes that have caused me to lose sleep - you never forget the smell of burnt human flesh.  Decomposing bodies are worse - you can smell them before you ever get close enough to see them, but the kicker is that you know you've got to get closer and that the smell's going to get worse. The decapitation wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...in fact, the thing that got to me worse than  that was the 18 month old who was left to wander the streets at 3 am dressed in nothing but a T shirt and a poopy diaper because mom and dad were busy getting their high on.  That made me want to kick someone's ass.

So, you're really serious about being a cop?  Have you decided if you want to work for a city PD or a sheriff's dept yet?  Or maybe the HP?
