Stardock Introduces Tiles - a revolutionary Windows Desktop Navigation Utility
Stardock's new Tiles, the long-awaited follow-up to the hit application Fences is now available
NOVEMBER 17, 2011 - PLYMOUTH, MI. - Stardock (www.stardock.com), the world's leading developer of Windows customization applications, has made the beta of its much-anticipated new desktop navigation utility, Tiles, available to the public. Stardock's last major new utility, Fences, has been an unqualified hit for its ability to enable users to organize their desktop icons; Tiles is designed to do the same for Windows programs and tasks. Tiles is available as a free stand-alone program at www.stardock.com/products/tiles or as part of Stardock's award-winning full suite of desktop utilities, Object Desktop (www.objectdesktop.com).
"Traditionally, productivity-minded users would make use of virtual desktops or enhanced launching programs like our own ObjectDock," said Brad Wardell, president & CEO of Stardock. "Today, more and more users have multiple monitors and are looking for better ways to organize what they're working on. That's where Tiles comes in."
Tiles appears as a side-bar on a user's display. At the top are the labels for each page such as 'My Tiles' or 'Documents' or 'Apps'. Users can then drag and drop programs, documents, or website URLs onto Tiles. If the program is running, users can hold the shift-key down and drag the app onto Tiles immediately. When the program is inactive, it appears as an icon. When it is active, it appears as a live preview tile.
"Tiles isn't designed to replace the Start menu or the taskbar," said Wardell. "It is simply there to help users focus on what is important to them at a particular time. Much like where Fences helped users keep their desktop clean of icon clutter, Tiles helps keep their desktop clean of task clutter."
The beta version is fully functional with the company looking for feedback from users on additional features and usability they would like to see. Users can also optionally add features through the integrated in DLC interface.
