New ships?

I'm just starting to stick my toe in the water of this interesting game, but I have an embarrassingly simple problem I can't solve: when I build new ships, and am informed they're ready, I can't find them. More precisely, I can't get them from wherever they are out to where I can control them. I bring up the fleet menu, and there they are, but I can't get them out into space. I click the blue arrow to the right of the ship's listing: nothing. Sorry for such a boneheaded question, but I'm going nowhere until I sort this one out. Thanks.

The ships are built and put in orbit around the planet that built them (unless you have autolaunch turned on which is in the lower left quarter of the planet screen.) If you do not have autolaunch on, then you need to go to the planet screen where the ship was built and click on the ship you want to send out of orbit (this should be on the lower to middle right side of the planet screen.) Hope this helps.

There's an easier way. When your turn begins, you are taken to the planet screen for each planet that has completed a ship or a social improvement. Go to the lower right, and you'll see an icon of the ships in orbit around your planet. Double click on that icon to launch your ship (in the case of colony ships amd tramsports, you'll get the loading screen). Not every ship needs to be launched; you may want to keep defensive ships in orbit. I find launching from the start of turn to be much, much easier than any other way.
