Hard Numbers

Ok, I've seen over and over again people talking about such and such exploit and saying it is a killer.

I've seen other people saying not to use it, blah blah or Frogboy say that it isn't a game player priority.

How about we get some numbers?
How about polls somewhere to ask the players what are the important things to fix?

eg. Do you want us to focus on trade issues or strategy?
or
Which is more important to you: trade/strategy/tactics/diplomacy?
or
Which would you like us to focus on first: a/b/c/d

That way we can say when the issue comes up, "yes, this is a problem but only 13% of the people voted for it as a primary focus."

And that 13% won't be some made up number.

It works for us, because we can input what we think is important. It works for the developers because they can cater to the largest denominator.

IMHO.

It's all important.

The programmers need to focus first on bugs. Second on playbalance and AI issues. Third on adding enhancements and online help.

Trade/strategy/tactics/diplomacy fall within playbalance and AI, and it's a judgment call which of these to hit first. The programmers should first concentrate on things that have a big positive impact on the quality game, but don't take too much time to program. Then do stuff that takes more time to program and doesn't have as big an effect on the quality of the game.

Three priorities for software development:
1. Make it work
2. Make it work right
3. Make it work fast

In GalCiv terms:
1. Fix bugs/crashes
2. Exploits & Balance issues (i.e. fixing the AI)
3. Interface issues (easing repetitive tasks)

After that, they we should hope for new features.

I agree with you all... esp the dancing girls...

However, a lot of what we are seeing are AI fixes. But it has also been mentioned that the developers are focusing on what is wanted most by the public.

My point with multiple polls is that there would be a clearer indication of what is found the most grievous exploits, etc.
