Mini Map Woes

Does anyone else find that on large and above maps, its virtually impossible to tell apart starbases from ships, your units from other Civs.

Ironically its better on my 17" monitor than my expensive 18.1" LCD screen.

Could the Starbases be made a letter maybe? or an icon rather than a coloured dot?

I would also love to see it "hoverable" IE i move my mouse over the mini map on one of the dots, and it pops up with "Starbase 121" or "Battleship 134" etc.

Any chance of these being added?

Aren't the starbases represented by "+"?
Also, I live and die by F9, which on my ancient monitor makes everything visible.
