Two v1.03 or 1.04 suggestions...

I only really have two complaints with this brilliant, brilliant, brilliant game is one that should be easy to fix. Heck, maybe there is a solution and I just don't see it. Basically I think there should be a research queue manager of some sort. In other words, if I have 15 or 20 research items queued up, it's very irritating to suddenly realize I need a specific item (let's say that my enemy has switched to a fighter heavy strategy and I need def. frigates NOW) and then have to go through and individually cancel each research. It's hard to see all the small icons with tiny numbers on them (I'm in 1440x900 res on a 21" widescreen monitor) and click them all. Then I have to select what I actually want to research, then queue up everything else again. A way to insert a research item into the beginning of the queue would be wonderful. Maybe even just an alt+click to move an item to the front.

The second complaint has probably been addressed and, again, there may be a fix that I don't know about. I hate, hate, HATE the auto-focus when zooming in and out. Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE strategic zoom. When it came out in Supcom, I knew that every RTS from then out would have to have it. It's so brilliant, like box selections. It's essential. But when I zoom in and my dang viewpoint catches on a fighter or a trade ship and suddenly I'm coasting away from the action, it's very irritating. Granted, I could just mouse to the edge of the screen to stop it, but it is an annoyance. A fix of an option to turn that off would be perfect.

Anywho, those two fixes would be great.

Also, a pji fix, but SO many other people are talking about that so I'd rather not weigh in. Well, except to say that one fellow suggested an entire star blockade that's a castable ability using antimatter. The pji could use this in addition to its jump slowing effect. That way any number of abilities could stop it, and the cast would only last maybe 30 seconds or so. Research could increase that. I'd love to have 30 seconds to do some damage to someone before they leave my fortress system for my undefended inner worlds.

Thought of one more I would like to see. Someone else has stated this one as well, but it'd be nice to start out neutral with all factions in an unlocked game. Nothing worse than doing an early mission to gain some rep only to have your automated defenses blast their scout into smithereens, destroying the rep you just spent 1000 credits to earn.

for your camera issue there is a camera button that is up near the menu button that toggles where your camera zooms in its defaulted to zoom in on your cursor..i like the second setting where is zooms into the center of your screen

Yeah, but that's the strategic zoom option. I WANT it to zoom to my cursor. That center of the screen stuff is so 2006. Strategic zoom is great. I just don't want it to auto-focus on a unit when I zoom in.

there 2 option for zoom. it zooms in where you are, and it zooms to cursor. if you cursor is ontop of a unit it shifts focus to it. you can this option from the button at the top or use its hot key M

don't forget you can use the arrow keys to pan around in this game as well

See, but what I'm saying is that I like the zoom to cursor function. I do NOT like the auto focus function. They're two separate things. I'm fine with zooming in on a unit if my cursor is over it. But a.)I don't want to track that unit and follow it, and b.)it seems like it's not only when my cursor is over it. If my cursor is anywhere near it, it tracks. Or maybe it's just that there are so many fighters flying around. I'm always tracking one of them.

I don't think I'm wrong about there not being an option to turn this off. The only option is to turn off zoom to cursor. Here's the problem. If I'm zooming in on a system, and my cursor happens to be over a trade ship about to warp out, all of a sudden my viewpoint is whisked away in a phase jump. Then I have to move the screen to break the track, zoom out and find the system, then zoom back in. It makes managing the game more difficult.

I agree with the first one. It would be nice to have a queued list of research techs that are easily draggable up and down as well as add/deletable. I too am running 1440x900 on a 17" laptop and it is difficult to see what is being researched at any given time let alone what is next or what is queued up. I like that view, but it would be nice to have an alternative view where you can see a scrollable list with easily moveable buttons.

As for zooming, meh, I cant complain. I wish more RTS's would auto zoom and lock onto targets like that. Its almost... refreshing. Its nice to not be choked by another EA interface.

I would like the option to change the camera control functions of MMB and RMB. I'm used to MMB being rotation of camera and RMB being scrolling move from other RTS's.

I totally agree with OP on the zoom. I HATE it when I zoom in and all of a sudden my screen starts moving with a unit. Especially when I am trying to focus target a ship or place an ability.
