hey guys i have an awesome bootup bg i made, but i dont thinnk its a proper 16 color bmp file, any help?

I wont say what the package is about but your going to like it, maybe someoen already cam up with the idea lol.

Vista image  ...probably a copyrighted image ...not possible.

Didn't download your file to verify, but if it belongs to Microsoft ...nuh-uh, no way, not gonna happen.

If you make it [the bootskin] YOURSELF, however...... and don't share it.... ;)

See that 'TM' after the words "Widows Vista" ...and the windows flags in the pic? [The ® next to the yellow part of the windows flag is a dead giveaway]

Those are copyrighted by Microsoft, and as such cannot be used. If that image was made by someone else other than Microsoft, and they used those images without permission, and are currently distributing them, they could well find themselves in a whole boatload of trouble.

Like I said ..if you make it yourself, you have no problem ...perhaps do a websearch for a tutorial on converting the image to the correct format, then have a go at it yourself :)

The image in #2 is unlikely to make a good bootskin as dithering to 16 colours will be pretty disastrous.

Your image is a 640x480 bmp with 16.7 MILLION colours, not 16 colours.

One version of dithering to 16.

Another even less 'happy' 16 colour version.

Copyright issues aside, the image is a bad choice as it has too wide a palette to make a decent bootskin...;)
