Multiplayer connection problem

When i try to connect to multiplayer the moment i hit connect a "disconnected from server" messege appears, also the address box beside the connect button is blank.

You need to unlock some ports on your router.

More likely in that instance it is the person hosting who needs to open ports. Joining games should not require any special configuration changes.
