Sins is the best game I've seen in a decade or more

Hey folks. Just to set the stage, I've played RTS and turn-based strategy games since before the genre had a name. 15 years ago (maybe longer), I played Dune II until the wee hours in my barracks room (I was in the Army at the time). It was the first game to really grab my attention and not let go.

Since then, I've gotten out of the military, gotten a real job, gotten a real life- In short, I'm much older. ;) I still play tons of games, from EVE Online to Hellgate, TF2, Bioshock- even installed Black and White a few days ago for old times' sake.

But I don't do the "play until you're suprised at what time it is" thing any more. I mean, come on- I'm almost 40 years old, only kids do that sort of thing.

I was completing my first victory in Sins last night and rejoicing in the cinematic glory of my massed fleet reducing the Advent fleet to so much space dust. This was after having eliminated the pirates completely. My combined arms fleets, with mixed capital ship groups and logistical support, were making sheer rubble out of everything, and what my fleets couldn't kill quickly, the Novalith Cannons I built ensured nobody would bother me.

Ah, I told myself. Finally, it's done. I can get some sleep, I've got work tomorrow, this going to bed at 1 is for younger people than me.

It was six AM.

So congrats to the minds behind this game; it's an amazingly deep experience that truly captures the fun I haven't fully experienced since those days laying waste to Harkonnen battle formations behind my 80486 DX2/66 while listening to my roomate snore.

My wife officially hates you. ;)

That made me laugh since I had recently a very similar experience. It's amazing how much time flies when you play this game. Boy did I had a hard time at work that next morning after I've defeated those Advent the previous (or same day if you see it that way) day.

I'm almost affraid to start another game because I'm scared I might not see time fly away. Yes there is a Save feature, but you need something to remind you it's time to save or else, you just continue ;)

Lucky me I have a newborn and when he wakes me up at like 3am to eat I just plug a bottle into his mouth with one hand and crank our a few more ships for my fleet with the other. Thank the lord for good mouse controls.

I feel your pain. I pray CPS never discovers my addiction to Sins.

SINS != DUNE II

Yep, crushing dreams is a goal of mine :CONGRAT:

Since my wife knew it was a work night last night (first night with SoaSE), she threatened me with bodily harm if I stayed up too late.

I managed to put it down at midnight. Tonight, however, I expect to see the dawn.

I wish I could do that, I'm way younger than you and really couldn't manage a 1am worknight finish let alone 6am. Still, Dune 2 was the first RTS I ever played on the Amiga and it was possibly one of the biggest eye openers ever (other than Elite 2 on the PC FTW).

Great times and yes, Sins is an awsome game that really is a leap forward. I just wish I had the mental energy to give it the true attention it deserves. I know Ironclad made the game, but as far as I am concerned, Stardock is 2 for 2 in my book.

Just picked this up yesterday . . . I finally summoned the willpower to save at 4AM, on the brink of crushing my horribly overmatched AI opponent. I can't believe even on the small random map with one opponent this took 6 hours . . . can't wait to try a larger, more complex game. Just wow.

You guys are pathetic and have no self control. The worst part is.....

I am 36, thought I was done with game addiction and yet my wife hates you because I can't walk away from the game either.

The worst part is I am not very good at the game lol. It's still great though.

Haha. Glad to see it's not just me suffering from SII (Sins induced insomnia). I constantly have to keep looking at the clock lest I forget to save and go sleep. And the act of saving the game almost takes more effort than I can muster. (good thing there's an autosave, eh?)
