How do you travel to other stars?

Hell everyone,

I just got the game and its great, been playing it straight for about 5 hours now. I cannot figure out how to travel to other stars and solar systems. Can someone please enlighten me as to how to do this?

I am playing a custom map I made, with about 8 stars, and lots of planets, but I seem to only be able to see and travel to planets within my original solar system.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

I couldn't figure it out the first time I played either, but you just have to research a tech...Something like "long range jumps" with different names for different factions, of course. You make the jump from orbit around your system's star and it otherwise functions just like any other short-range jump.

Sit back and enjoy the glowy effects.

There is also a artifact tech that can be found on a random planet which unlocks the ability.
