Looking for Artifacts - Useful at Last?!!!

In Beta 3 and 4 I would search my planets for artifacts and rarely ever find anything. And if I did, it wasn't so useful by the time I got it.

In my first full SINS game last night I actually found an artifact fairly early on (mid-game, when I was positioning to take the AI on headfirst). It game my ships 10% faster mana, er anti-matter regeneration.

Has anyone else found that artifact-hunting has become more useful in the published game? Or, was it just a lucky find for me, first game through?

Artifacts are put on a percentage of planets (I think 15% by default on the random large/huge maps).

So not that many will have them, but artifacts are a lot more beneficial now than they were in betas :)

To find a artifact i just need to build those explore thingies on a planet? Or is there something else i need to do to find em?

Nope, just do the exploration upgrades for the planet - you can uncover artifacts and other planet bonuses (which are much more common than artifacts).

Oooh!

Other planey bonuses?

Yay!

This is one things that irks me big time. I am so damn unlucky! I have never got an artifact and I always explore. I also think the game taunts me just to piss me off with "so & so found an artifact" message every 30 minutes or so. :SURPRISED:

One day I will have an artifact even if I must mod it to make it happen! ;p

Ok thanks, yeah i have found a +20% money incom mod on a planet with explore, but still no artifact yet :)

It's a bit of a crapshoot in my experience. In 3 games I've found 3 artifacts, 2 in one game, 1 in another and 0 in the third (my first game too :( :P). I also found many more bonuses in that 2 artifact game than in the 1 artifact game than in the 0 game.

I found the awesome 50% faster phase jump between stars in a single star map game. Was pretty awesome... I imagned how much that could have helped me in a multi system game. >.>

I still maintain the best artifact is -25% research costs :P

In one game, where i first figured out how to uncover artifacts, I(not knowing how to get artifacts on my own worlds) invaded an enemy world for the sole purpose of it's artifact, then i'm like... explore... of course! and i set all my worlds to explore 100% and found an artifact and "spice trade" :V

I also stumpled upon this 50% speed increase between stars 3 times now. Two times it was on a single star map.

I mean c'mon is it that hard to prevent the game from generating this artifact in singe star maps! Its plain unfair when you got this one and your enemy finds an useable one in a 1vs1.

Do you basically have two shots to find something? Are they equal? IE: If you strike out the first time, does the 2nd chance to find something come at a penalty.
