Hosting Failure?

No firewall or router.

Here is the warning message i get.

Hosting Failure:
ICO has detected that most players cannot join your game. This is usually caused by a firewall and/or router configurations. For more information on resolving this issue, please see the SINs FAQ at https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/

I do not have a router of any kind, and i tried turning off my firewall all together but i still receive the same message. I have created a ICO account and can view the lobby, most games i attempt to join gives me a "Rejected by host" but i can join a few

The same problem applies to my friend who lives 5 minutes away from me and uses the same internet provider. When we attempt to join the others hosted game, the game waits a few seconds and is unable to connect (not the "rejected by host" message, however i forgot to write down what it said). He also turned off his firewall program and it did not help.

I have looked through the forums but it all seems to involve a router or firewall. The one that seems relevant i do not fully understand (see link below).

Please read my post (#30) regarding that message on the following thread.

( #30 & #31 are especially important and relevant :) )

Just realized i never tried connecting to other people aside from my friend with the firewall turned off, and it seems i now get "Network Error: Disconnected from server" instead and less often. I believe this is the error me and my friend where getting.

Damn, my modem is a router.

/me beats head on keyboard.

I find it odd that Sins is the only game where this has ever come up. Time to do some studying. Thanks the_Monk.

Reasons this may not have come up with other games:

1. FPS-type games use UDP (connection-less) and not TCP (connection-specific) transport

2. Even other RTS's might "encapsulate" their traffic so that peer-to-peer scenario's work better (sort of the way ssl-tunnel software works in "tunneling" past routers/firewalls) Seems to me a trade-off is being made. No DRM on disc means tighter network control to verify license adherence or deal with the IC-online stat tracking?

there are more reasons, however I'm itching to host/play again tonight.... so if you need more help/instruction feel free to hop on my TS server tonight! (the login info is in one of my posts in the technical forum sticky)

Still working on it, need to dig up my login info to access my router settings/info.

Apparently i changed the default user name and password at some point. This means i need to do a "hard reset" and set up my modem again. That means that my friend is going to try connecting directly to his modem with a really long cord first.

If this game didn't kick ass i'd have put it in a small hole in the snow and burned it in a pool of gasoline.

FIXED!

Finally dug up the user name and pw, looked around and found the DMZ (demilitarized zone) setting that disabled the firewall protection on the modem.

I assume this is not required as i have a antivirus/firewall program and i don't mind formatting if i'm wrong.

Since i never saw this mentioned anywhere, is there any major issues with doing this?
