Ai skill and personality

I've been seeing people posting screenshots of well rounded AI fleets, and AI planets that have been built up. I'm just wondering what personalities people are putting the AI on to see this behaviour.

I've only played 3 games against the AI (and one multiplayer) so far, but in each one, I have never seen anything like that from the AI. I always play against random hard AIs, and even if I turtle, and give the AI time to build up all it ever does is send small fleets that don't have a chance in the beginning, followed by masses of siege frigates with no support (and don't have a chance) laster on. When I decide to push into the AI's territory, it's almost all sparsely built up. A trade port, research lab and maybe a gauss cannon around each planet.

is there some game option I'm playing with that the AI has trouble with?

Sounds bugged, most reports suggest the AI is vastly superior to beta 4. Any chance you could send a replay (they are autorecorded) to support@ironcladgames.com so we can see what is happening?

The AI should be behaving more like the ones at the bottom of this thread (I had many other examples but I can't find there are so many forum posts even I'm getting lost trying to find them :P): https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=175261#1444876

Thanks.

I've gotta agree with Uneb on his comment...

I've been playing through a short campaign, on normal difficulty. Everything about what Uneb is saying lines up with what I'm seeing in the game as well. Piecemeal attacks by siege ships, and no buildup of defenses on enemy worlds, save the pirate base. I finally pushed all the across the starsystem to the enemy's core worlds, and they have nothing but a gauss gun or two, a couple mines..?? Struck me as kind of odd, I was just hoping the AI would get stronger as I leveled up to hard from normal.

I lost my first game as Vasari playing against three normal AIs to a siege frigate fleet that took down two of my worlds while my capital ships were engaging the enemy capital ship fleet.
Saw no defenses in general for AI worlds but pretty large fleets (not only siege). Of course I was just experimenting with the game and was always low on metal. With a proper fleet of my own I think I could have repelled the siege frigates (~10 or so).

The personality thing really may be it. My last singleplayer game I played FFA with two easy AI, the defensive and research personalities. Both seemed to primarily use siege frigate spam attacks.I've never tried the aggressive or economic personalities, so one or either of those could be giving people the balanced fleets that I'd love to see.

Do the file names match up with the name of the replay when you load it up in-game? I checked which replay I wanted to send in, from the in-game replay viewer and it had the number 02061181 or somesuch. None of the files in any of the folders within "application data\ironclad games\sins of a solar empire" have that name. There are a lot of replays saved there, but they don't have the same names as when I go to view them in-game, so I don't know which one to send you.

In other news, I played a 2v3v3 (my brother and I against 3 random hard against 2 random hard) game a few minutes ago. We ended up quitting before we finished because the AI put up so little fight. It wasn't as bad as the games I've had before, but their fleets were still 2/3rds siege frigates. And one AI never researched arctic occupation, desipite his homeworld bordering 2 ice planets, with a 3rd just one more jump away. As a result, he only colonized 2 asteroids, leaving 3 ice planets uncolonized for the first hour and a half (then he got rolled by another AI).

I'll send you the replay, if I can figure out which file it is.

Yeah, look under local settings\application data, not just application data. I downloaded the beta 4 over the weekend before release (I preordered through TGN), and the stuff in the latter is from that. Took me a bit to figure out too, but I sent my replay in.

I've seen both in my games. I've seen AI's with huge varied fleets and well built planets, and I've seen AI's with nothing at any of their planets and only siege frigates for ships. It's...interesting to say the least, never really know what to expect when you start scouting...

It was in local settings, and I was looking at the leftover beta replays. Much thanks!

My replay has been sent
