Game freezing

Game freezing

My game has been freezing after about 30 min of game time. When it freezes it does so for about 10 sec then keeps going. After the first freeze occurs it will continue to happen. If I alt tab out after the problem occurs I notice a error in the system tray saying that the driver nvlddmkm has crashed and then been restored.

Work around: Lower the bump mapping quality from highest to high and other effects settings.

Well I've installed the new beta driver from nvidia, wich didn't solve the problem. Like I posted before I've got a quad core 2.2ghz AMD processor, a 8800ultra nvidia, 4gig of ram running the whole thing on a 64bit version of vista. Wich brought me to a conclusion. With a resolution of 1600x1050 (widescreen) and the details all set on high and 4xanti-aliasing, it is strange that whenever it freezes, the problem seems to be coming from my hdd or cd-rom.
The reason I say this is that during the freeze my hdd is working hard, or is trying to do something anyways. Resulting in a short 'tap'/'click' right before it stops freezing (the actual freezing takes a sec or 5).
Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

I MAY HAVE FOUND A WORK AROUND

I used to have this problem (Vista 32bit) but it recently got worse where it would freeze outright with a black screen and stay there until hard reboot.

I messed with settings at what seems to have worked is to: Turn ANTI-ALIASING OFF. As soon as I did this the freezing stopped. I also turned all my effects down to High which may have helped, but as soon as I turned anti-aliasing back on it started happening again.

Hope this helps some of you!

UPDATE-- upon further testing it seems turning off anti-aliasing causes some graphical glitches when zooming in and out... at best it freezes me for a second or two so definitely a step up from before

These are known issues with the NVIDIA drivers. NVIDIA is looking into the issues, but we have no idea when they may issue new drivers to fix the problems. If you're running with SLI, we strongly recommend turning that mode off.

Latest Nvidia beta drivers for vista 64 seems to have stopped the problem. SLI mode works fine.

I do have SLI - Ill try turning that off and see if I can play :)

btw I have been crashing in tutorials, single players, main menu, options, and Ive tried low to highest on the effects screens to no avail.

I turned off SLI - I actually played the game...for almost 5 minutes...then I froze. Ill keep checking the forums to see when this will be fixed.

At this point we're waiting on Nvidia to fix their drivers. There's nothing we can do on our end about it. We'll definitely keep folks updated when a fix appears in a driver update. ;)
