TGA and per pixel help

Time to ask for a little bit of help.

I need to understand TGA graphics more in order to use the features. I also need to understand "per pixel" for WB again, in order to use the features. What tutorials or books are available that will describe step by step instructions to creating TGA graphics. Most of what I have seen makes assumptions that I already know what an alpha channel/masks are and how to use them, I don’t.

I have one of the lengthy tutorials for skinning and haven’t read through it all but in cursory review it doesn’t go into the differences of graphic file formats or how to make/use them.

I’m using PSP7 and SS 5.0.1 along with WB 6.0

Thanks in advance

Save as PNG with transparency > Import PNG into SkinStudio > SkinStudio will convert the PNG to TGA. :CONGRAT:

thanks for responding. possibly more information would help???

1. converted a bmp to png and saved it as a png. no option seen dealing with transparency.
2. imported the png into skinstudio, when saved it was converted into a bmp not a tga.

I've never tried converting BMP to PNG because BMP's aren't capable of alpha transparency.

You need to create the image with transparency from the beginning.

Yeah, if there's no alpha transparency in the image, SkinStudio will convert the image to BMP.

I'll try to dig up some PSP7 tutorials, and post the links later.

Open bmp in paint shop pro, set opacity to 99% or whatever opacity level you want, just can't be 100%, you can then save as a png and SkinStudio will convert to tga as it now has alpha.

hmmn.. never thought of it that way. Neat trick, but what do you about the background?

thanks for your help and the links, (I wonder why the second link attempts to access my ms access, makes me worried about a site when this happens?)

I also found my PSP7 reference guide that survived the move from CA to NC. hopefully between the links and the guide I'll, at least, have the information for a better understanding.

I've no idea. Doesn't happen on my end.

I hope this helps you. Happy skinning! :CONGRAT:

Once you adjust the opacity there is no background.
