Cursor XP

"Apply" button doesn't work

I am having a problem with cursor xp. I have several cursors dowloaded, but when I try to switch to a different cursor, the Apply button doesn't work. Can anyone help?

(BTW, I've just now had to uninstall Cursor FX from my computer. I downloaded cursor called "Flame", and with Cursor FX, the cursor would not go away. I couldn't switch to another cursor, and I couldn't reset to the default cursor, even after deleting the "Flame" file entirely. Has anyone else had this problem?)

Any help/advice is much appreciated. I am still learning my way around the Object desktop software.....

Thanks!
Stef :)

Randomly the check box of "disable all" gets checked. Make sure this isn't running.

As for the non chaning cursor I would suggest sending in the request to support@stardock.com.

What happens when you change cursors and just hit ok?

Thanks for responding. When I would change the cursor and hit OK, nothing happened at all, like I'd never hit the apply button in the first place. I'll contact Stardock support.

Take care,
Stef :)

I had the same thing happen. It's from trying to use both CursorXP and CursorFX. Use either one, but not both, and this problem goes away.

Yep XP and FX no longer play well together. However if you have both installed I recomend uninstalling them BOTH, then downloading FX after a system restart.

Ok, so I did what you said Seabass. So how do I change to a different cursor or even view all of the ones I have downloaded? With CursorXP there was an extra tab in the Mouse Properties, but not with CursorFX, or at least on mine there isn't.

When I try to open the program through the Start menu, an error pops up that says it has encountered a problem and needs to close. Is this because it's still in beta there are bugs in it yet?

If that's the case and I am unable to view or change my cursors, there is no point in me keeping CursorFX and I might as well uninstall it and go back to CursorXP, which I had no problem with at all. I have enough cursors that work fine with CursorXP if it comes down to just sticking with that, at least until they get CursorFX fixed.

I probably should start a new thread for this, but this is really the only problem I'm having with it and I feel it is related to this thread. If I need to start a new thread, let me know and I will.

Thanks.

Cursor FX is on full release now. Please make sure that you are version 2.00.004.

Also make sure that you place the cursors in the new location for FX:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes

Thank you, Seabass, for responding.

I have a shortcut to that folder where all of my downloaded themes are located, but what i liked with having the extra tab in Mouse Properties is being able to see what a cursor looks like before applying to change it. Doesn't matter, I guess, since I can just click on a cursor file to change it.

I downloaded CursorFX directly from the website, so as long as that is the latest full release version, then that's what I have. I still don't know why the program has an error when I try to open it and I don't know what to do to fix that.

Overall, I can change my cursors by going into the folder and clicking on them manually, like I said. It just seems like I went a step back by upgrading to a newer program.

Thanks again.

I don't think the site was updated yet. I could be wrong about that but Stardock Central remains the best way to get the latest published builds. However if you like I will make sure the developers see this as a user request.

Isn't there a little round red button with a magnifying glass that just does that? I think it shows as soon as you click on the cursor you want to look at.

Or maybe I just understood you wrongly?

aufisch, I believe that BrianZachary wants CursorFX integrated into teh Windows Mouse Properties in Control Panel.
That was a nice feature.

Ahhh, ok. I never used that feature and hence don't miss it.

Sorry then BrianZachary. :)

Seabass, this is the page I downloaded it from:

https://www.stardock.com/products/cursorfx/

If the latest version isn't there, then yes, please make it a user request.

And yes, I was talking about CursorFX being integrated into the Mouse Properties like CursorXP was. I don't know what you mean, aufisch, about "a little round red button with a magnifying glass". If that's something in the actual program, I can't bring that up.

According to Zargon if you have recently downloaded from that link then yes you have the latest build. And by recently I mean end of last week. You should be on version 2.00.004.

I will let the developers know about this as a feature request.

Sorry again BrianZachary, as you can't even bring the CursorFX-panel up, you obviously can't see any buttons (the one I was talking about is black and not red, by the way).

Just that you know; once you have resolved your problems with the configuration-panel not showing up, you will see that CursorFX does not only give you a full list of your installed cursor-themes, but you can also easily get a full preview (including animations) of each theme.

Just a thought that popped into my head: Try and remove all your old cursors-themes from the CursorFX\themes -folder (just move them to a save location). Then try to bring up your CursorFX-control panel again using the Start-menu as it should work now.

I just thought I mention that as some of the older CursorXP-themes are a bit buggy, and apparently CursorFX is less tolerant to those bugs than CursorXP was. I was told that a fix for this problem is currently in testing and will most likely be out in the next release.

Thanks, aufisch. I did that and the CursorFX control panel came right up no problem. I wish there was a way to convert all of the CursorXP themes to CursorFX. I have a lot of themes and I really don't want to re-download them all again. Maybe the developers could add a feature in the next release that will let users convert from XP to FX. The XP themes do still work by clicking them, they just don't show in the control panel.

At least I got this to work now. Thanks again, everyone.

It's only a handful of cursorXP-themes that does the "crashing" thing. Re-downloading them wouldn't change anything.

You can try to move your old Cursors back 10 at a time, to narrow down the culprit (I bet it is only one or two in your whole collection), or you can wait for the next release where this problem apparently has been solved (CursorFX will 'fix' the bugs in a flawed CursorXP-theme). :)

I was thinking it could also be the number of cursors it was trying to load. I have nearly a thousand themes. I was adding some back to the CursorFX folder and reopening the control panel after each time and it took longer to open each time. I've actually been going through the ones I have and getting rid of ones I don't like as much as I did when I downloaded them. Anyways, I will just move a group at a time, go through them and then move them back out and move another group in until I have my final choices left.

I was wondering if it is safe to delete the trails and effects themes that came with the program since I don't have the paid version. I figured it's fine to do so, but I don't want to take any chances on screwing it up.

Then there's some file called BlankEX-Blue.CurEXScheme that had to have come with the program as well, but I don't know what it's for. Is it safe to delete that too or is that some required thing needed for the program to work right or something?

I have no idea whether it is safe to delete the CursorFX-trails and Blank-themes that came with the program.

Maybe you can just move them somewhere safely and look how it affects CursorFX?

As for your CursorXP-themes: if you have more than a thousand you definitively won't be able to copy all of them to your CursorFX\Themes-folder right now.

CursorFX won't be crashing upon loading, but it will take longer and longer to load, and eventually you won't be able to apply new cursors as the Control-Panel will just freeze up.

The developer-team is working on this problem and the next build will perform much better with lots of cursors installed.

Ok, well hopefully the next release will be available soon, but until then, I will just keep doing it this way.

I want to thank everyone who has helped me and I apologize to Stefanie Lewis for sort of taking over her thread. That was not my intention.
