Description of the races

Hi all,

Been following Sins of a Solar Empire for awhile now but I find something odd...

On the main site, there is nowhere I can find that tells me what three races are in the game and what the differences/styles are of them. I'm not sure if this is done on purpose. I was not in the beta so I want to start thinking about what race I would like to play as. Is there a post or some source of information that will tell me about the three races and possibly give me a unit list for each?

Click the lore button at the top and scroll down until you see the three faction tabs. Each of those will give you some info about them.

Kanzig, when I first arrived here I too spent ages looking for some kind of unit list. Here are the best two sources I have found if you are looking for unit info:

First a thread from back in September by Ron Lugge. One of the better sources for actual info about lots of units/features and their ingame uses (even if it only covers 2 of the races and may be slightly out of date by now).

Also there is a German wiki site with some basic stats and info about most of the TEC and Vasari ships (also incomplete and missing a few units/links, but run it through babelfish and you can get a general idea and see some ship icons, this is how I learned to identify the ships in screenshots).

And I wouldn't look too much into the lore on this site, it's misleading about the play styles (at least as far as the vasari are concerned) and almost, if not already, a year old now.

Ahh the lore section. Now I see it. Plenty of fluff to give you an idea of how each race thinks but not much in the way of actual strategy or unit differences.

I'll check out those links you posted Raymundus but I'll keep in mind some of the data is outdated.

Seems like the Advent are big on low numbers but heavily shielded/armored units. TEC seems like the low cost/high numbers race and the Vasari are somewhere in the middle?

"Advent spaceships seem to occupy the middle ground between the weak-but-cheap TEC and the strong-but-expensive Vasari. The Advent don't really pin their hopes on conventional technology, though. It seems like the military doctrine of the Advent is based around their access to powers and abilities not available to either the TEC or the Vasari. Large capital ships, for example, seem to function more as psychological support vessels than the heavily armed weapons platforms of their opponents."

Its current as of the beta -- but not with the internal / release versions. They haven't released those publicly, so I can't update it with the new data.
