Combined Arms Effectiveness

How is it?

Greetings.

My query is mostly a result of not having been in Beta, but my pre-order is ready to go!

How good is combined arms in Sins? I'll reflect some on it by including:

Fighter Class ships
Frigate Class ships
Destroyer Class ships
Cruiser and above

From reading the forums, it is obvious you need many "frigate" class vessels to win, which follows suit to what I would consider standard "escort" vessels; your big guns can do the damage, but will be overwhelmed.

Can you create a "true" task force, capable of meshing the skills of many types of ships...or is the format to find the best single frigate, make lots of'em?

You want a variety of different ships, ideally, but many players will "spam" a given type of unit. That said, a smart player will usually back up his spam with at least a few of the other unit types -- flaks and support cruisers at the very least.

Even if you spam 2 different types of units. Against a balanced mixed fleet you will run into problems. For example LRM's, and sieges will get decimated by light carriers. Light carriers will be useless vs flaks. 3 battleships will have problems vs 1 battleship, and 2 support cap ships. The list goes on. There are many combinations of units that will work. Which is why i like how the ship specs are done.

Good, thanks for the help :)

I like the amount of tactical situations Sins will offer...wanted to hear from the people who know best!
