Dark Lord Re-appearance Event

I'm talking about the event that re-introduces the Dark Lords as a minor race in DA. You know, the event that heralds their arrival like it was the end of the universe, or sumfink. First time I saw it, I experienced a bit of trepidation. Oh noes, I thought, this must surely be the end!

Then, nothing.

So, after a few more turns of nothing, I sent a spy to their homeworld, and lo-and-behold, there was nothing there! No buildings; nada, zip, zero. Just a colony base, and a couple of "in progress" developements. Ha! Some terror! I dropped a troop transport on them in short order --- problem solved.

What's the point to this event (and other similarly themed minor race appearances), if they start with nothing on the planet they grab? They're just easy pickin's for whoever gets there first. Maybe they should start with a fully developed planet, eh? As is, it's a joke.

Many people have expressed interest in allowing the Dread Lords (among any other minor race that shows up mid-game) to have a fleet and perhaps even a 1/2 built planet. /shrug, hasn't happened yet.

If you want some fun in the game though, baby the Dread Lords for a few weeks. Let them build up and get some ships and their planet built. It really shakes up the game :)

Yeah I know what you mean. I was playing a game last night and the Dread Lords popped up smackdab in the middle of my space. I was like "Oh hi there.". Sent a combat transport with 4000 guys and ended them in one turn. (Admittedly, I had a 9 advantage factor, they had 900, but they only had 20 soldiers.)

The Jagged Knife however annoys me severely. I never have a problem taking my planets back, but it always messes up my flow and I start getting sloppy.

Ditto the Jagged Knife really irritates me.

I had the Drengin conquer the Dread Lords within three turns of the event popping up once :D

I was once massing my forces near Yor space to annihilate them utterly, and got the Vegans *and* the Dread Lords within a few turns of each other. The only space I hadn't explored that had a star was right behind my fleet, too...within two turns' movement.

The AI did not want me exterminating the AI races, I guess. Shortly thereafter, it had the Arceans touch the Telenanth and ally with everyone but me.

Speaking of, someone tell me what the hell that "Will become godlike" event actually does.

It starts boosting the race's abilities until they become godlike. If you don't wipe them out early, they will become unstoppable.

If you do some espionage on the race that get's the godlike bonus, you can check out their stats and see certain ones slowly go through the roof... And doesn't stop there...

is this "godlike" event new for TA or is it also in DA?

Certainly it's in DA, I had it happen in my current game. IIRC a lesser version is in DL.

that's pretty cool it never happened to me.

Aye, the 'godlike' version is a Mega Event introduced in DA. There is an event in DL that is like it, to a lesser extent. That event is still in DA/TA.

Got the forums with just this question in mind, I've seen the "Woe to the galaxy and you in particular, the Dread Lords have returned!!" It doesn't actualyl say that but still.. I never actually see them before the game ends. I just wondered if I was having a bug or something. It never says they've been defeated and I've never seen them in the race list... so I've been confused as to what the event actually was.

Well, first off, they aren't a major race so they won't be in the race list where your opponents are. If anywhere, they may show up in the Minor Races list but I won't count on that entirely since I've played games with minors off and when they showed up, nothing was shown in the minors tab.

Since they aren't a major race ,you wouldn't notice them via influence blobs. They only start with one planet, but if given time to stew they will rock everyone's world (a mistake I made once and only once).

I'm not quite sure, but I don't remember seeing them in the Minors tab. I remember they showed up a couple of games ago and I saw where other races were making peace with them. However I could not find a way to even initiate diplomatic communications. So I loaded up some fleets (they had been around awhile and had managed to build a small but lethal force) and used some aggressive diplomacy
