Problems downloading after purchase

Hello fellas, and merry xmas. I was just looking for help on OD. I purchased it, downloaded and installed it..... however, after registering it in the Tools menu, i still keep getting an error message when trying to download the products that come with it ( e.g.; Desktopx, WB6, etc.... ) Any help would be wonderful. Very respectfully,Derek

It's been a while since I first got Object Desktop, did it ask you to reboot after registering? You may need to. :NOTSURE:

Are you using any kind of anti-virus/spyware that could be blocking the dl's?

What version of SDC do you have installed?

2.49.510 build:162

It was working fine this past weekend. It's not the first time it hasn't worked for a couple days either.

I had a problem after I installed from the CD, then tried to download WB6 as well. The server asks for confirmation, says it can't download it, possibly because the firewall is blocking it. In the end, I had a hunch that it was because my browser was set on "Block all cookies". After I reset
it to allow cookies, the download proceeded. You don't make it clear what error message you got; if it was the same, maybe this will help. There was an alternative offered which I only have a vague memory of; I had to copy a message the server sent into an e-mail, then the server sent an e-mail back with a file that I had to insert somewhere; it might have been a sig.bin file which you have to insert into the WindowBlinds folder (in My Computer\Local Disk C (or whatever your letter is)\Program Files\Stardock\WindowBlinds. This is how you activate the program offline; you get the sig.bin file one way or another and it goes into the WindowBlinds folder. As I said, my cookie hunch worked out, and I didn't use the sig.bin file. One other thing, I was instructed to rename the file to sig6.bin, from sig5.bin. That may have changed. If you got the same message, make sure you copy and paste the message into your e-mail, then the server automatically sends you the file without requiring a person to do so. Check your cookies setting in your browser; click on Tools\Internet Options\Privacy, and try Medium High. That made the problem go away for me.

I have the error 13 message. I even tried uninstalling.... rebooting... installing, rebooting... and still the problem. I will go and try the cookie thing. As for winblinds 6, it isn't the only program, all the others i wish to download keeps giving me the same error. I have all of my antivirus and firewall off.... still no luck.

Do you mean you cleaned out the cookies, or did you reset your browser to ALLOW cookies. You have to open Internet Explorer, if that's what you use, find Tools on the upper right hand corner, click on it, a box opens, click on Internet Options at the bottom, a box opens, click on the Privacy tab, drag the slider to Medium High (if it reads Block All Cookies or High), then click Apply, then OK. WindowBlinds, IconPackager, DesktopX and Skin Studio, I think, all require you to confirm your order, and cookies have to be allowed in order to proceed. Try downloading the other files that don't need your e-mail address and password. Does Error 13 suggest that your firewall or antivirus may be blocking the download. That's what my error message said. I don't remember the number. There is a method to activate your programs by getting a sig.bin file from Stardock by e-mail. I don't have the link, but they have a page that tells you how to get the file
and activate programs on a computer not on the internet.

Four days and no WindowBlinds, staring at an ugly screen. Just to make sure, after you open Stardock Central, do you click on ObjectDesktop on the menu on the left? It sounds like you have, but if not, when you do so, it shows the list of purchased software, what's installed and what's available. Then you click on a component you want and an Install sign shows up; you click on that, and at the top, the download progress first shows something like "Validating product registration". (Before all this, you have to enter your e-mail address and serial number). Is this when you get your error message, and, if so, what does it specifically say?
In the meantime, if you haven't already done it, get the demo versions of WindowBlinds and IconPackager. They're good for 30 days. Go to stardock.com, you'll find a page from that location that has download options for the programs; you will be redirected to download.com, and can download them from there.
The people at Support have been very helpful to me, at least.
If you haven't used or seen WindowBlinds, IconPackager, or DesktopX, etc., at work, you'll find it's worth the trouble; some of the skinners are simply amazing in their artistry. Getting skins is tedious work, but also worth the trouble.
Anyway, good luck.

Thanks willis..... i have already clicked the install button next to the available programs, and it keeps giving me ERROR 13. This is what it looks like at the bottom of the log:

-- [Installation] ---------------------------------------------------
Download: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\dx\beta\dx.xml 1
Load: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\dx\beta\dx.xml 0 (could not open downloaded file list)
Result: Installation failed (13)

Really starting to get to me.

Well, I sure can't help you. If you haven't already done it, get the demo versions. WindowBlinds, IconPackager, DesktopX and Theme Manager will take care of you for a month while you're sorting out your problem. You can also get Logon Studio (XP only), CursorFX (Beta) and ObjectDock for nothing. In this way you can go to wincustomize.com and other sites and start building and using your library of skins. Make sure you uninstall the WindowBlinds demo before you get the paid version. The others, I don't know for sure if you have to uninstall them first. I'd like to know how this all turns out, so I hope you keep posting until the situation is resolved.
