Show desktop - and widgets?

Hey guys,

I'm new at DesktopX and I like this great piece of software really much!
But I've got a problem/question: when I'm clicking on "Show desktop" on my Windows (XP SP2), all DesktopX widgets got to be hidden. Only if I open another program or minimize all open programs per hand the widgets reappear.

I'm a fan of "Show desktop" on Windows and use it really often, so it's a pitty the widgets got hidden. Is there a solution? I tried the "Z-order" functionality and if I choose "Always on top" the widgets remain in shown state. But in this case the widgets are always on top (that's what the name says, so I'm not wondering about that ^^). "Desktop-level" as Z-order doesn't solve the problem.

So I would be happy if you could help me...
Kind regards,
Mark

Show desktop actually puts a new window with the wallpaper and not titlebar fullscreen on your desktop.

Instead of "Show deskktop", try using [Win-key]-[m] to Minimize all and see if that does what you want.

Also, if you are using Vista, the desktop is an entry when you [alt]-[tab] or [Win-key]-[tab]

This is because DesktopX widgets (as in DuroBlend) are made up of individual windows. DesktopX hides the taskbar icons for active desktopX objects/widgets, so once you hide them via Show Desktop, I don't think there is a way to show them. The desktopX dev team could fix this somewhat easily. They could possibly make a shell hook which watches for calls to whatever api/apis Show Desktop uses (probably SetWindowpos()), or they could quickly put together a system within the desktopX object model which detects when desktopX windows have been hidden and determines whether the hide command was authorized by desktopX.

In DuroBlend, this isn't as much of an issue because taskbar icons aren't hidden by default, and when they are hidden, DuroBlend windows are accessible via ALT+TAB.

latin, pushing your duroblend app is one thing but making deragatory comments about desktopx and its developers is something completely different. i'd stop making those comments if i was you. you definitely are not making any friends at stardock by constantly criticisizing their application. you need to learn to use a bit of tact in your posts, latin. i'd hate to see you banned or exhiled.

Yeah, I know what you mean because I used to use that feature but, have replaced it with other tools or minimize all.

I've got a VBScript API Wrapper Class that may give some alternatives to this but, won't be playing around with it until in the new year.

A widget shouldn't be available in alt+tab, that would simply be retarded IMO. Might I point out that gadgets appear in alt+tab just like any other compiled app.

Latin, I love your enthusiasm and look forward to seeing apps implementing your technology but, be a little gentler. ;)

[Win-Key]+[M] works fine. Now I've to found a solution to activate this command through an icon, so I#m going to search on the web...
[F10] works well too to show the widgets.

I just was wondering because other widget engines like Kapsules and PodXP (which are not as good as DesktopX in many other things!) stick on the desktop and are not hidden when I'm showing my desktop.

Thanks for your help so far.

Latin: Doing advertising on a site and bashing the owner of the very same site never has been a very clever idea. The youth of today... *sigh*

I didn't intend to bash anyone, I was merely providing a suggestion for how to fix this issue, as it is something I have had to deal with in my own engine :)
