Text not appearing on headerbars

This may be a problem in a program that I run frequently and not in the skins. What happens is that the edit control header bars display the correct graphics, but no text appears. This is a big problem in a program that displays tables of data because the headings don't display the title of the columns.

I've tried several skins with the same result and I'm hoping that there is a setting or workaround for this. I'm certainly no expert on skin design, and I'm hoping that someone knows how to work this out.
