Pregen Racial Abilities inconsistencies

I have recently purchased GalCiv II Gold Edition and I have fully patched it. I have also recently been perusing the galciv wiki and I was curious over some inconsistencies. Are the racial abilities on the wiki the correct ones? If they are nor the Yor seem awfully overpowered. Also it has been stated that some races have extra points left over for customization while others do not. When ever I go to the race screen though after picking a race I still have a full 10 points to purchase abilities. I can even further improve some of the non-inherent race abilities to far beyond what their normal levels should be. In addition some races have much greater abilities than others. I do not really know if this classifies as a bug but its an issue that I felt needed to be brought to some ones attention. Thank you for the help!

I think this is intentional-- but I would much prefer it if there were a "default" option. There are times I want a specific experience that challenges my biases (research first, productivity second, everything else a distant third), or I want to just pick-up-and-play without making a complicated series of cost-benefit decisions about the nature of my civilization before I start the game. I wouldn't want there to be no chance to customize, but I'd really like the alternative not to-- to just let me click one button and be the Iconians, if I want.

Yes, the races are supposed to "base" abilities. Part of the game is to pick abilities that improve your race.

Some combinations simply make it easier to maintian your economy (economics and morale). Some allow you pursue various strategies better (military production + speed = fast colonization). Others allow you to persue special strategies (PQ bonus ability improves the planets you colonize).

You can use the abilities to increase the effectiveness of your super abilities. The Arceans Super Warrior ability only works if they strike first, so speed bonuses are advised. The Yor can slow down ships in thier space, so a speed bonus also helps. The Thalans can produce factories really fast, so a social production bonus is helpful (I have built Industrial Sectors in 1 turn with 100% social spending).

By the way, the Drengin +20% weapons +20% from abilities +10% from war party is +50% weapons. Thats a big deal when you have blackhole torps.

The races are *not* balanced, like factions in a multiplayer game, nor has Stardock ever made any claims to the contrary. For better or worse, the races were constructed to satisfy identity and backstory, not game balance. Some are just inherently better. It's a single player game, so youre not really "cheating" anyone by playing any particular race.
