B-Date displayed

Stardock forums display user's account birthdates.

*Note* I changed the title of this post.

Hello everybody,

I noticed that when you login to Wincustomize.com then go to Stardock.com and click on forums, then click on a post, and click on a user to see their profile their entire birth date is displayed. In Wincustomize.com only the user's age is displayed.

It's one thing to display each other's ages. Kind of fun making fun of us old farts anyhow; however, in this day and age of identity theft no website should be displaying actual birth dates online in any forums. This is just my opinion but I wanted to post it in regards to everybody's personal ID safety.

If any of you think this is a security risk, what can we do to get it changed?

Thanks,
f

Personally I think that labeling it 'Possible Identity Theflt and Security Risk' is greatly overblowing the situation. I do however, understand that it would make people uncomfortable. I'm scheduled to make an update to the forums this week, and I'll remove the actual birthday from the display.

If you're really worried about people knowing your birthday, you might want to have a talk with the folks at Zaba search. Simply entering a name for most people will reveal their birthday.

Isn't it up the member to enter that information (or not enter it)?  If security is a concern for folks, they should enter false data.

Thanks for looking into this andrew_, and sorry if I overblew the issue with the wrong post title. I didn't mean to scare anybody.

Also, thanks Zubaz. You are right. The only way to bypass this at this time is to post a fake birthday, but there is no option 'not' to display your birthday. It's kind of fun to see where people are coming from when you can see what generation they are hailing from.

ps you can still get your correct age to show by creating a fake birthday for your age.
