World Series Sweep

Proud to be a Bostonian

At last I can relax and go to bed early again.

Congrats to the Boston Red Sox on a clean sweep.

I know Night Train and buzzh58 are Red Sox fans
So I am doing the Happy Dance with you both today.

Yes, congrats to the Sox, the curse has well and truly been laid to rest.
And I also hear ARod is another that will be leaving the Yankees next season, the Evil Empire is slowly crumbling and I can see the Red Sox becoming the next dynasty in baseball.

I'll buy you both some Peanuts and Cracker Jacks...

So what are Cracker Jacks?

" Take Me Out To The Ballgame "

(1927 version)

Nelly Kelly loved baseball games,
Knew the players, knew all their names,
You could see her there ev'ry day,
Shout "Hurray" when they'd play.
Her boy friend by the name of Joe
Said, "To Coney Isle, dear, let's go,"
Then Nelly started to fret and pout,
And to him I heard her shout.

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game."

Nelly Kelly was sure some fan,
She would root just like any man,
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along, good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Nelly Kelly knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the game sing this song.

Red Sox have 2nd highest payroll in baseball. They aren't cute anymore. They have become like the Yankees.

The games were way too long because of TV commercials.

Let's see, 2006 series lasted 5 games, 2005 series 4 games (This was torture for me as I am a Cubs fan). The World Series has become boring.

I guess it's sour grapes for me as the Cubs sucked in the playoffs so my faith in them and MLB is nil.

Boston is a solid team with a half a dozen or more players up from the minors. It only makes things that much more interesting for the Tigers this season. Enjoy the trophy and have a great winter. The Tigers are coming.

Sox have a great future ahead.

Gotta give the Rockies credit. Winning 21 out of 26 games is a tremendous feat.

I will be attending the parade today as it is mcuh more important than work. I'll be doing the Snoopy dance, NOT the Papelbon shuffle.

Hypothetically, if the SOX didn't try to compete with the Yankess and their payroll, the Sox Nation would have strung up the owners by now and hijacked the team for themselves. If the sox don't spend more than the salary cap they are not playing to win. Sox fans buy alot of stuff, we are proud, we are the CHAMPIONS!

Yep, Canada

Although looking at some of the team rosters I sometimes wonder how long it'll continue to have Americans in it.

Im curious Craig, is there a salary cap in baseball, and if there is how would you get away with paying above that and not break any rules.

No tellin' what those little mushrooms in the Cracker Jacks will make some folks think!

Of course NT you are right about the payroll but that is what is wrong with professional sports, that and their tie in with TV. To compete you have to spend. Doesn't always work but in this case it did.

Enjoy the ride!

The team may pay Johnny $xx,xxx, xxx.xx dollars as part of their total but they can also hook Johnny up witha contract with Bob's Used Plumbing for endorsements worth $XX,XXX,XXX.XX (just one example)

Not really as salary cap but

"MLB has instead implemented the so-called luxury tax, an arrangement by which teams whose aggregate payroll exceeds a certain annually revised figure is taxed on the excess amount (or fined). This is paid to the MLB who then puts the money into its "industry-growth fund". [3]
For the 2004 season, only Boston, Anaheim, and the New York Yankees paid any luxury tax, as the team's superstar players earned yearly salaries close to the entire payroll of weaker clubs. The tax has only been implemented on nine occasions and the Yankees have been taxed on five of these."

Blame the Yankees for always buying their way ...but it looks like they just might be at the end of their ' Reign' .

Give the Sox credit they played awesome the whole season and deserved to win. It was a fair shake ...unlike the World cup Rugby that Australia and New Zealand were eliminated by 1 game. Hardly a fair portrayal of their ability as a team. The All Blacks won consistently in the 4 years since last cup and were out of the Cup in a blink.

We won't even go into the unfair calls that were made during the game that eliminated them...

At least this series played out fairly...

As for it being boring - well..it had a few moments of nail biting but the Sox just were hot and the Rockies are still a great team. They just couldnt pull it off against this team - Im still proud of the newer players that really shined during the off season.

Thanks for clarifying that Lantec and Ken.

Day Two after the holocaust in Denver and the city is getting back on it's feet again. We're a bit disappointed but hey! life goes on. Our guys did really well and came from nowhere so we've got nothing to complain about. I'd like to see them sign David Beckham for next year

Nope. Why can't it be called a World Series? You said it yourself no other countries in it, therefor the World Series title.
