MP not accessable from Primary

Was trying out MP and loving it the first day! When I disconnected my laptop (secondary) from the network to take home, no warning or information telling me I needed to do anything special on either the Primary or Secondary was offered.
Came back the next day while the primary has been running all night, and there was no tray icon for MP on the primary. When I restarted the system, I would hear a beep but still no icon, then I tried to start MP manually and heard the same beep; but alas, still no MP on primary. Cannot access primary options at all, laptop allows reconfigure as both secondary or primary.
Desktop: Windows XP Pro SP2
Laptop: Vista Business
