Want to install 5.51 for XP x64

since the ver 6 has no support for x64, I want to install the 5.51 but could not find it anywhere on stardock site for download. Also is it better to install it over 5.5 or is it better to uninstall 5.5 and then install 5.51? thanks

It's definitely best to install clean whenever possible (without a version of WB already on your system).

As for obtaining earlier builds, could you send an email to support@stardock.com from the email you had purchased WindowBlinds under?

thanks, I tried contacting Stardock with no luck yet. They don't seem to comprehensively read emails. Here's what I wrote to them:

I am using Windows Xp x64 and found out that the new window Blinds 6
does not support the 64 bit windows, therefore I want to purchase the
5.51 but did not see it available for download on your site. I tried
calling your sales office number but no one was answering. How can I
purchase the 5.51 version?

their reply:

Hello,

There is not a link to purchase WindowBlinds 5, but if you wish to purchase WindowBlinds 6 from our webstore, and email sales@stardock.com your request, we will be happy to
add a WindowBlinds 5 registration to your records as well.

Thanks,
Kim

The email from Stardock sales seems to read as follows:
If you want to have the WindowBlinds 5 version you will need to purchase WindowBlinds 6 version first and then email sales@stardock.com and they will add a WindowBlinds version5 registration to your records allowing you to download WindowBlinds version 5.

This seems to be your only alternative since "There is not a link to purchase WindowBlinds 5" as stated in the email from Stardock sales.

At least that is how I read it.

If you have Stardock Central, use it to archive 6, then use it to uninstall 6. Once 6 is uninstalled and you reboot, 5 should show up.

I'm out of support for WB - so I can only try to install WB6 trial (which fails), and I want to make SURE 5.51 will work on this system before coughing up USD$19.50.

So can I email them to send me a trial version? (Based on the response koobah got, I suspect not).
Thanks for any ideas!

There's apparently a 'shareware' (trial) version at filehippo

...nice try! But it's the shareware version of WB 6.0, which I already have (and which won't install).

As I see it, the problem for XP x64 users who wish to try WB is that we have to purchase a version of the software that we know definitely doesn't work, and just hope like hell that a prior version is still available that does work on our systems.

Call me old fashioned, but that's neither the spirit nor idea of shareware.

In any case, I'll try and post an update when I've heard back from the stardock sales team. I have grave doubts they'll be interested in allowing a trial of 5.51 without a sale, and the costs to me if the trial ends up not working as expected is the transaction cost of the international transfers. As a longtime user of OD (expired when I shifted to XP x64 in 2005), that sucks like a black hole. But I'll give it a try.
