Dark Avatar Crashes to Desktop with Automate Order

Howdy!

I'm running XP with a lower end computer, and everytime I tell my flagship or space miner to auto explore or automate, the game crashes to desktop. It does this on the last 2 save games going backwards. Can anyone help me straighten this out?

Please open your debug.err file in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem. The location you'll find the debug.err in varies depending on your game version:

Dread Lords, all versions:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2

Dark Avatar 1.5-1.6 (non-Vista):
C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar

Dark Avatar 1.6+(Windows Vista), 1.7+(non-Vista):
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

I don't seem to have a debug.err in that location. Dark Avatar doesn't have the chance to make it I don't think. When I select Automate, it drops to the desktop and windows reports a fatal error.

That wouldn't be the problem, as it starts writing it as soon as you run the game and continues writing to it as you play. If you're running under a limited user account on windows and DA 1.6 or lower though, it may not be able to create the file. If that's the case, update to 1.7 off SDC or run the game as an administrator, and you should get a debug.err.

Hm, no obvious errors at the end of the debug. Does it do this in a new game or only in those saves?

You could also try turning off mixed vertex processing and see if that does it...maybe it's a graphical thing.
