Serious ObjectDock Plus Errors =- Crash and Cannot Uninstall on Windows 2000 sp4

Hello,

I have been extremely happy with the free version of ObjectDock. So happy I decided to purchase ObjectDock Plus for the extra system tray and tab features.

I uninstalled ObjectDock free version and installed the Plus version using the link provided and registered the product. As soon as I installed it I was greeted with a serious error and an error log report. I closed the program and figured I didn't uninstall the free version correctly. So I then tried to uninstall the program and still no dice, the button is completely unresponsive in the Add/Remove programs control (other programs uninstall fine) and there is no uninstall option provided for the software elsewhere.

Figuring this is on a fresh install (completely updated of course) of Windows 2000 SP4 I decided to reinstall windows and start fresh.

I reinstalled Windows 2000 SP4 and then update it. Then I install ObjectDock Plus and... Boom! Same error that crashes to desktop and the error log. I have provided the error log in this message if a developer would like to read it. I also still cannot uninstall the application from my computer. So all I could do is remove the link from startup menu and hope someone comes up with a fix for me. If not I need some information in contacting support for a refund and a way to remove the program from my system as I really don't want to have to go through another reinstall/update cycle just to remove a program that won't work.

I thought maybe they sent you an email with the serial and the 1.20 version link (which reportedly crashed some 2k systems). From the web, you should have 1.9 installed.

Try this: Install Stardock Central (SDC) WWW Link

Under the 'Misc' tab input your serial number. Install OD+ version 1.90 right over the one you have installed. You can install and un-install via SDC.

I'll try it and let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Worked like a CHARM!

Thank you so much. I wonder why they didn't tell me to just use Stardock Central in the email I received.

Oh well, at least it's fixed now and I can go about reloading all of my programs and files from my other computer.

With SDC you'll also get easier access to any release updates and SDC can make archive copies for backup

Great deal about SDC...

Now only if I can get the system tray to load some icons into that bar. heh.

I added a system tray tab to the top bar and it only displays the ObjectDock icon and the Windows Updater icon out of like 10 icons in there. When I click on the Windows Updater icon it dissapears.

I tried it in the Administrator account (heard that can work for some people?) and no dice on that either.

Oh wells, hopefully it will be bug fixed soon as alot of people are having issues with the system tray loading it seems just by scanning the forums.

System tray works fine here with the 1.90 beta...

First steps:

In SDC->Settings->General I have "Enable MCP Notification Area Support" ticked, but "Enable MCP Smart Startup" UNticked.

In the directory: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock" if you have a Trayserver.exe file in there make sure it's renamed (eg to a non exe extension) or move it somewhere else & reboot.

HTH

Hmm, I think I figured out why the icons aren't showing. Or, more specifically, why only certain icons aren't showing up.

I believe that the system tray in ObjectDock is only loading up icons that load after objectdock has loaded.

For example, when my system starts up all the icons in the systray load, then objectdock loads. Showing in Objectdock's systray is the objectdock systray icon and then eventually a windows update icon will come on after a few minutes.

I recently went in and stopped most of the icons in the system tray and then restarted the programs that put them in there.

Nearly all of them showed up in my objectdock systemtray!

Now, it seems, I have to figure out how to get objectdock to load before the system tray icons load or figure something else out.

What an odd bug!
