Anybody Home? Max Activations reached

Because of the problems with updating WB6 concerning a lot of "reboots" I have now reached my "maximum activations". I have emailed Support. I understand I probably won't be able to get "reset" until tomorrow but if anybody can help me now it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I editted the title so a Stardockian might have a clue what you need.

I'd like some clarification on this as well- I reinstall windows on a frequent basis- am I going to run into an activation problem? How many activations is permitted for my copy of windowblinds? I would think it would be infinite.

I think it's around five.
A high number of activations can indicate a pirated instance.

Or, when you have to uninstall and reinstall a goodly number of times because the updates won't update.

That too.

But that doesn't happen that often.

Ooo, ouch. I tend to do a "wipe and re-load" of windows every 6-9 months. I guess it's a habit from the old days when Windows was, shall we say, less stable. I haven't run into any max activation issues yet, but then again, I have only had to do one re-install on my laptop lately when I took a Linux distro off and re-sized the partitions. (All these great new skins coming out lately take up soooo much room!)

I think that at some point they must reset the number, or limit it to 5 within a certain time-period. Other comapnies have done the same thing. I can remember the Plus! pack doing the same thing. I had bought a license and was doing wipe and reloads several times over the course of the year, I just had to call in to Microsoft and the had reset it. (See - it does pay to register your software occasionaly)

So, after a long ramble, I guess I would like some clarification on this as well. Haven't run into it as of yet, and had OD for a few years now, but I know that I will have to get a new machine at some point, and if my Office 2007, Vista and Windows Mobile 5 don't start playing nicely soon I'm going to have to wipe and reload again at some point!

It's really not an issue.  If you hit your max, email support@stardock.com with the email you registered with and what you need and they'll reset you.

Just wanted everyone to know that there is multiple ways to get the Max Activations message. If you have lots of widely different IPs that ask for activation, do more than 5 in a day or a certain number in a week, month.... etc. In almost every case if you do run into this you can write into us and it will be handled in less than 24hrs. Just make sure the Max Activations wording gets into your subject or body so the support system pitches it to the correct location. These emails get handled faster than average (baring weekends of course).

We have no problem resetting or dialing back activations once we check the account.

I seem to recall someone mentioning in a thread a long time ago that the activations reset every 30 days or something like that also. Could be misleading info but thats what I remember.

We consider the 'Max Activations reached' to be one of the most time-critical issues and therefore wanted to give some additional feedback on this.

We realize anyone encountering such a problem would want a resolution right away. Here are the methods I would recommend to resolve this issue asap:

  • Posting in the forums here with a subject line of Max Activations Reached (or at least similar) to what Zubaz has changed this thread
  • Logging into the live IRC chat through your favorite IRC client or simply by clicking the CHAT button in Stardock Central
  • Emailing support directly via support@stardock.com and including a subject line similar to that recommended as the thread title above (Max Activations Reached, or something to that effect)

Thanks for the clarification, i reinstall Windows like 2 to 3 times a month because I like to slipstream stuff into my XP CD updating it with the latest hotfixes and some 3rd party programs... So this is good to know.

OHOH Night... The activations possibly reset after a certain time?

Hum can anyone help deny or approve this idea? I would like to know

I don't think I will have any issues and if I do I know to email support but Like others I tend to redo Windows every so often to keep my system "clean". I would feel comfortable knowing that the activations for WB or Desktop X or any others get reset after a month or so..

Thanks all

Blessings

Thanks for the clarifications Stardock admins. Like I mentioned, it hasn't been an issue for me but at least if it happens, I know I can search the forums to find my answer!

No the activations DO NOT reset themselves unless someone at Stardock resets them for you. However this is often misconstrued with the fact that you can activate a certain amount of times per month. There is also a small time limit between activations. So if there is a large rapid amount of activations on the same key/account you hit the wall, or if there are just too many in the month you get the same thing. I can't give details of course because that sort of defeats the purpose. But you can know that you can activate a little more after the first of each month (provided you didn't just activate a ton on the 30th).

That might be confusing but I hope that clarifies it some.
