Widget running, but cant see, how to bring it back?

hello everyone, like the topic title says im having a bit of trouble lately with my desktopx widgets.

i am running the clear widget series - calender, system info, and weather, also using the note-it widget.

so my problem started the other day when i tried to run a fullscreen game and force it into window mode using the program 3d Analyze. When i tried this, it worked, however it messed with my resolution for a little as the game started up.

this resulted in my desktop icons being shifted around and my widgets completely dissappearing from my desktop. i thought they may just have gone in the background like they do when i ctrl + d.

but when i tried everything to bring them back up and couldnt get them to appear, i figured they must have been shifted off the visible portion of my screen, in a place my mouse cant go ;(

so.. they are set to run on startup and although they are working (i can see when i task manager it) i cant bring them back to their default locations cuz i cant find em and click on em.

i can run other widgets, but what is crucial i recover is the infromation that i wrote on my note-its, and would like to overall fix my problem, just cuz i use the note-it widget so much.

halp!, thx.

Can you right-click your desktop, select 'properties' > 'settings' tab ...and reset/apply your normal res?

Don't panic - the widget(s) are there , they are just off in no man's land - they ' off screen' resetting the resolution will not retrieve the widget because it will still 'remember' the coordinates it now at regardless..

The first easy try to fix is the clear he widget cache....this will reset the widgets to there original coordinates.
Clear cache by:
Open desktopX welcome screen > Click on Load Widgets > Options > Clear Widget Cache > Done > Close

Without Clearing Cache - My Way:
The way I do it to find one particular widget is to open up desktopX in Builder mode. Import a widget that you know works.
RightClick on DX builder icon , click on " List Object "
Usually the first line is the name of the widget - look at the X and Y coordinates for that widget ( that you know for sure works and this is before you clear cache )
Write down the X and Y coordinates.
Right Click on that Widget and delete all and related. Make sure desktop is clear.
Now:
RightClick on DX Builder Icon > Import >import the problem widget.
RightClick on DX Builder Icon > List Objects
Find the name of widget , usually first line.
Now backspace off the X an Y coordinates and type in the X an Y coordinates from the widget that worked.
Close List Objects

Right Click on widget > select EXPORT > Follow the prompts and export the widget back to widget folder ( its best to rename this one slightly different like add V2 at the end. You can always delete the original one in the widget folder after you check to be sure this works)

After exporting the widget , close desktopX and go try out the widget. It should not be on your screen in the proper place.

This is not as involved as it sounds. It goes quite fast.

I would not try the clear cache fix for the important info lost widget - try the X an Y coordinates fix just to be sure you dont lose the info. Clearing cache resets the widgets to original state that you downloaded from the first time. Im not sure if you would lose any notes so dont clear cache until after you retrieve this one. Clocks and weather etc will not be affected by clearing cache as far as losing anything but your location info.

PS: after you retrieve the important widget with info - then clear cache and see if it resets the other lost widgets - sometimes it requires reboot after clearing cache.

The above line from comment 2 was typo > it should read
" It should NOW be on your screen in proper place "

Fairyy~: These are some great suggestions. Sure, using the blanketed 'Clear your DesktopX' cache may be a quick resolution, but as you mentioned, it forces the user to lose all of their saved settings as well.

When I run into this type of problem, I generally do as you suggested - launch the Object Navigator and ensure everything is set as it should be.

The only real reason something might not be showing up is if it's outside the coordinates of the work area, if the opacity is set to a less-than-readable value or the visiblity is set to False. Of course if a particular referenced image is no where to be found within the 'CurrentTheme' directory, that would be a concern as well.

I hope he was able to find his missing notes. That used to happen to me quite often when I used 800x600 resolution. Most of the widgets I d/loaded would be 'off screen' because the person that made and zipped them did so on 1280 resolution. The widget of course 'remembers' its position and was usually beyond my taskbar. It was very frustrating until I was shown how to find those little devils.
