WB6 installed - no skin on taskbar and impossible to change skin.

Pretty much just what the heading says - the taskbar comes up unskinned and I can't change skins at all.  In addition a number of programs are now not showing in the tray although they are running, so something's buggered it up somehow.  This is under Vista Ultimate x64, where WB 5.5 was running A-OK.

Anything I can do about this, or should I just revert to 5.5 and wait for an update?

tony toad: You seem to have some much older files installed.  wblind64.dll and wbsrv.dll should not be dated july.

Please uninstall WB, reboot (important) and then reinstall WB.

Did you try to uninstall/reinstall?

I haven't done so yet, since there appears to be a number of people with the same problem for whom a reinstall does nothing. I'll try it in a bit though, once I'm a bit less busy.

Did you install from a standalone installer or via SDC?

Standalone installer. The mail offering me a free upgrade went in the spam box for some reason, so I upgraded for $15 before I noticed it. SDC didn't list it as among the downloads though, as I did check there first.

Roger that. I'll get rid of v.6 and go back to v.5.5 in the meantime.

Any joy?

OK, some nice but weird stuff here. Installed and un-installed from the standalone distribution a few times just to check, but without any joy at all. Was going to leave it at that, but then I decided to give it one more try, this time installing from SDC since it now appears there (didn't before). Well what do you know, it worked!

Whether it's down to you guys having made changes in the program today, or just some plain weirdness, those of you still having problems should give this a whizz to see if it does the trick.

Nothing was touched online today. Odd. Email kwilas@stardock.com your program files (x86)\stardock\sdcentral\installed\wb6.log please.

Don't know if this is of any help...

I had exactly the same problem after upgrading from the beta to the full release through SDC.

The beta ran flawlessly, but after upgrading and rebooting, Vista64 booted into 'classic', and the WB-configuration menu popped up, but didn't let me change any skins (nothing happened when I pressed 'apply my changes now').

I read in another thread that after uninstalling WB I should delete the wbload.dll's out of the system32 and syswow64 folders using the command-prompt, but when I attempted to do this, Vista told me there was no wbload.dll in the syswow64-folder (there had been one in the system32-folder though).

I rebooted, reinstalled and rebooted again. This time Vista64 would boot into aero and the WB-config menu popped up again and I now was able to change skins and WB6 worked again on my computer.

I also have to mention, that during the full install (the one that now works) I got the weirdest error report in Vista ever:

"Microsoft (tm) Operating System has stopped working" - Huh??? I had to choose between "search online for solutions..." and "close the program" so I choose to close 'Microsoft Operating System' which luckily didn't do anything but closing the error-window.
Vista didn't close and SDC still kept installing and everything else seemed to work as well. This happened twice during installation!
