Metaverse Medals and What They Mean Answered

Many out there have been playing on the Metaverse for a while and have earned a great number of medals but those that are new to the MV or to the Galactic Civilizations universe would have to traverse a large number of threads to discern what each medal actually stands for. So to ease the searches of those that don't have the time or ability to search for all that I present, as to the best of my knowledge, what each medal stand for.

First off, to have Medals appear under your postings you must go into your Characters page and highlight the Default button located underneath 'Edit Character'. Once this is highlighted the medals will appear in all your past and future posts.

Naval Ranking (Ensign through Fleet Admiral) is based on number of postings to the MV. A high amount of submissions increases your ranking.

Ensign (1)
2nd Lieutenant (2)
Lieutenant (3 to 6)
Commander (7 to 9)
Captain (10 to 23)
Fleet Captain (24 to 34)
Commodore (35 to 39)

Rear Admiral (40 to 49)

Vice Admiral (50 to somewhere around 100)

Admiral (greater than 100)
I do not currently know the amounts needed for Fleet Admiral other than its a very high amount of game submissions, at least above 450 (the current highest amount of submitted games)

Average Difficulty: Averages the difficulty of all games played to the LOWER averaged difficulty level.

Battles Won: Amount of submitted MV games (wins + losses), received at the 5, 10, 15, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 750, and 1000 benchmarks.

Empire Medals: You must be a member of an Empire to receive one of these. Some empires are very well established and are not easy to knock down from their position.

Authors and Commenter Medals are Forum related medals. I do not suggest attempting these medals as they are currently held mostly by Stardock personnel and making posts just to obtain these could result in punitive actions, such as Exile (unable to post).

Achievements:

#1: Racial Medal: Having a victory with each 'main' race (does not include Korath or Krynn at current time) at least once in a submitted game. Can be submitted from any version however.

#2: 5 Victory Games

#3: 20 Victory Games

#4: 50 Victory Games

#5: 100 Victory Games

Medals #6-#9: Unknown Status.

Wounded in Action: Posting 5 defeats, can not be resignations, will appear on your screen in game but no longer appears under postings for an unknown reason.

Alignment: The average ethical alignment used in submissions. Chaotic Good or Chaotic Evil means that your average falls between the extremes and Neutral.

Race: The average race used for submissions. Strangely, DA games are not used in determining average race, but DL and TA games are.

Character Rank: Medals earned by being the top scorers on the MV board.

The Wounded in action Medal won't show with the rest of your medals, never has worked as far as I know. In addition; to earn it you must submit five defeats, retiring doesn't count.

Edit: Also I thought I'd post the link to the legend for the medals, since it is not the easiest to find Medal Legend

Thanks DA. There are some minor bugs with the Medals and I know the devs are aware of that (since Kryo has mentioned that he should have one of the medals that Frogboy has). Maybe once TA comes out they can fix this but its a pretty minor thing and doesn't seem to affect anyone really. Thank you for posting the Link also, I didn't think of that, oops.

I believe naval ranking is based purely on number of games played/wins (independent of the score). Since I am a small map player, my scores tend to be lousy and still I get my medals at pretty rond numbers (e.g. 40 games, not 41 or 42)

The rounding with Difficulty seems to be not the median (which would be the statistically correct way with ordinally scaled items like difficulty levels - but metrically scaled (the "normal" average: to find out how it rounds assign a positive number for each win (e.g. 1 for cakeswalk, +1 per dificulty level) add them and divide them by your number of games. Rounding is quite normal, it seems (x,55 is rounded up!)

Thanks Butterfly. I have altered the OP to reflect how Naval ranking works. With the Difficulty avg I know that at least at one point it dropped the decimal point to only using the first integer(ie 5.88 became 5 even though it should have probably become 6) If someone can definitively answer that I will change the OP to reflect it.

To Kryo and/or others from SD that may be listening, after conversing with Mumblefratz we are in the thinking that Achievements 6-9 have, as yet, not been given any status. May we humbly suggest that my supposition (a Conquest, Research, Influence, and Political victory with each race) be submitted for consideration for those medals. I would suggest that would give more than enough reason for players to try out different strategies and submit more games to the Metaverse to achieve those goals.

The racial medals are also buggy, or somehow very exacting to achieve. I have been told you have to have over half your games played as one race, which isn't true, tried that to no avail. Then I saw where it had to be at least 5+ games, which also didn't work.

I notice that most people who have one are DL players, it seems harder for a DA player to get one. I dont know if they changed it, or discontinued awarding them between DL and DA, or something else. I see that some people (the butterfly) for example, have one. But it looks like from the profile, that it was awarded from 1.5 version, because Terran was played for the first several games but only accounts for 13 out of 40 submitted games total.

Other screwy examples would be one of Kyro's characters has 8 submitted games, all Drengin, but no racial Medal.

But then Marcathonas has 1 submitted game as the Drath, and does have a Medal...

I got my race medal without playing the Krynn or the Korath. I played them later, but it seems all you need is the DL races

Sorry, I wasn't talking about the racial medal that you earn for winning with each race, thats the "Racial Victory" medal. I meant the medal thats actually says "Human" or "Arcean", or whatever your favorite race is.

Query: Would Metaverse users like Achievements 6-9 to stand for a Victory with Each Race in the Defined Category? If there is enough support for this then the Devs may look into implementing this.

I would vote for that. It ceratinly would give me reason to a: play all ther races and b: play for all 4 victory conditions.

I actually thought 6-9 were already tied to victories like medals 2-5, you know like 250 wins, 500, 750 and 1000 wins. I've never seen anyone with that many posted victories, let alone posted games. At 1 point I surfed through the top 150 players and I dont recall anyone that high, but I could be mistaken.

I am all for more useful/attainable medals. So if the devs might do what Silverbeacher says, I say go for broke and get all we can ask for right now. I think all of these medals have some merit in having players post more MV games.

I propose 16 total achievement medals! Here how it would break down:

Achievement Medal 1: Racial Victory
Achievement Medal 2: 5 Victories
Achievement Medal 3: 20 Victories
Achievement Medal 4: 50 Victories
Achievement Medal 5: 100 Victories
*Achievement Medal 6: 300 Victories (Something different from submitted games)
*Achievement Medal 7: 550 Victories
*Achievement Medal 8: 800 Victories
*Achievement Medal 9: 1000 Victories!!!
*Achievement Medal 10: All Victory Conditions (Only 4 Victories, 1 of each)
*Achievement Medal 11: All Races Military Conquest
*Achievement Medal 12: All Races Beyond Mortality
*Achievement Medal 13: All Races Cultural Conquest
*Achievement Medal 14: All Races Political Victory
*Achievement Medal 15: All Difficulty Victory Medal, win at each difficulty level
*Achievement Medal 16: All Allignment Victory (1 Good, 1 Neutral, 1 Bad)

Ok, AM 10 & 16 may be a little cheesy, but they do serve the goal I mentioned above. They are similar to the Racial medal in my view. They encourage MV players to play all victory conditions and all allignments just as the Racial medal encourages you to play each race.

The medal I think that would be the most interesting would be All Difficulty Victory! Sure, Veteran players who always play Suicidal this medal would be easy, but I am not 1 of those players and it would get them to post more games. This would be a good goal for new and average players too, give them something to shoot for and really try the game turned on full blast. I'll be honest, I play to have fun and the majority of the time that means winning. I don't want to play something I know I can't beat and for no payoff. This might be enough for me to keep notching up my games.

actually i feel you could skip the 7-9 medals but add the 2-4 medals but for each type of victory ie a medal for 5 or more tech victories , a medal for 5 or more conquest victories etc.

I am curious about 1 thing, everything I have read says Fleet Captain at 25 games, and here I am a Fleet Captain at 24. Am I just that special?

I'd rather see medals for non-military victories that didn't require playing all the species.

GW Swicord, I understand what you are saying but respectfully disagree...e.g the Terrans in DA with Super Diplomat are extremely well situated in being able to win a political victory rather than war-mongering Drengin. Winning such things with other (read: all) races makes the win that much more valuable and meaningful. Also, thank you, I hate searching through an entire thread for what should really be in the OP. The thread should be comments and thoughts, not the details itself.

I didn't say it properly before, but this is more or less part of my interest in focusing on victory types for this forum bling stuff. I got drawn into the Metaverse Council to represent oddball players, AFAIK. For those of us who really don't like a military win, whether that's for aesthetic, ethical, or ergonomic reasons, some medals for the non-military victory types could be a Metaverse motivator.

Guys, how about some medals that distinguish between consistent wins at 'Rare' vs 'Abundant' settings, which require different skill sets /styles of play?

How about a 'decathalon' medal for wins in a wide variety of settings?

Wins in:
Good, and Neutral, and Evil;
Tiny galaxies and Gigantic (or Immense?) galaxies;
Rare settings and Abundant settings;
With at least 3 different races;
With each victory type;
At least Masochistic (Challenging?) dificulty.

Wow, I am always impressed by the tremendous variability this game has, when I think about it.

Another possibility. I don't even know if the campaigns can be played and posted inside the Metaverse, but if they can, how about Campaign Ribbons? Really, you'd just have to post a victory in the last scenario of each campaign, I guess.
