Really Annoying Interface Issue

I hate the way windows pop up and take priority over whatever I'm doing at the time. Today I was adjusting my tax rate and accidentally clicked one time too many, putting the tax at 81% and dropping my approval down to 10%. And about one millisecond after that, the election screen pops up, there's no escape, and I lose control of the Senate.

Pissed me right off.

The only way I see that could happen is if your trying to adjust taxes during the turn change, which is never a good idea unless the turn is being held up while waiting for you to move a ship.

That was a cool, and very rare, coincidence.

Like DA said, it is not a good idea to be adjusting critical things during the turn change. It is not that hard to let the turn complete before fiddling about.

Similar annoying issue - is anyone else frustrated at how planet menus pop up when they flip to your side from influence? It's a good idea that the game forces these planets to your attention, but IMO it would be better if they just came up with all the other end-of-turn news items, in a controllable manner.

The controlling parties bonuses become negatives for you, until you regain control.

I'll vote for fixing this soon.....it is very annoying and the windows don't display correctly when the planet flips....you get the announcement that such and such planet has finished its que, you go to work on it and then you get the announcement that such and such has flipped and another planet window pops up...the tiles change but the name usually doesn/t.....and there is no way of going back and tracking all this without pen and paper....so its a very frustrating little glitch....

An event log like Civ4's would do the trick, along with not allowing new windows to steal focus until the player exits the current window.

or allowing a minimize function so you could minimize any window you weren't working on and finish the windows in the order that you wanted....

I am most sincerely vexed by this context, especially when it involves multiple planet flips in a single turn. I dislike being "forced" to leave new Starports inactive because I don't want to miss updating build queues for new worlds.

I'm not sure if this is true for planet flipping, but usually there's a set of icons running up the right side of the main screen noting what events recently occurred. Assuming planet flipping uses this, it ought to be possible to mouse over those icons until you hit something you missed (i.e., the planet) and figure out where you were.

Unfortunately planet flipping isn't represented by those icons AFAIK.

Sure isn't, and putting it there rather than as a pop up would seem to be an easy fix. At least I'm not the only one annoyed by this.

The icon stack could still be a problem for large map players b/c it doesn't indicate that there are more non-ship-build events out of view at the top of the stack.

That is also true of things like wars between the AIs, treaties, espionage events, etc. The point is, you can go through those at will, rather than having it pop up while you're in the middle of something else.

I would say I have two big issues:

1. I would like to be able to accept or reject (or perhaps put on hold) any tech
advance I get from capturing a planet. Sometimes the tech advance is an economy buster and I hate deleting super advanced factories if I don't need them or can't afford them.

2. I would like the unowned planet list to show the category of planet it is (under DA--toxic, radioactive, aquatic, barren, high gravity, or anybody). Or perhaps to sort the list by category. Something, so I don't have to double click to see whether I want to colonize it. When I come back, the list (I believe) is back to planets I already own.

Vista Basic is trash. I am sure it is to blame for many a problumes!

This pop up thing is especially annoying if you get more than one planet flipping. When you go to set up the ship queue, you get forced to go on to the second flipped planet, meaning you have to backtrack to the first planet all over again.

One workaround for finding flipped planets if the UI moves you away from them is to hit F6 to bring up the Governors and go to the Colonies tab. First, the newly flipped worlds won't have a shield next to their names (no ships in orbit -- this'll only help if you've got ships on all your old worlds). Also, there won't be any focus set (that I've found, anyway), so looking for those helps. And, there either won't be a Shipyard (so a dash ("-") will show in the ship building column) or Nothing will be building there.

Not the best options in the world. But, they'll usually let you find things.

This is a good notion for some players, I'm sure. But starting around late mid-game, I usually have at least 75 colonies and I do not have any uniform patterns that would help me single out the flipped worlds. The only time I can do it that way I can do that is if they did have Starports and I'm not in one of those periods where I deliberately leave low-production Starports idle to save money.

Brycej's comment about the minilist is also interesting. I never use that list for anything but looking for things to rush build or ships to upgrade. The big Colonies list, now, that's a place that really needs to show the environment variables. There's always a point in my DA games where I have to go around my whole empire looking for those little yellow icons and trying to count up how many tiles are in each set so I know which Advanced enviro tech will pay off the most. That would be much easier to do in the Colonies list, but the info isn't there.

I had this in another rthread but it seems this is a better place to bring this up. When going through the end-of-turn planet list where the GNN tells me what was completed, i get an overlap of planets. Not only does a new planet pop up when it flips to me WHILE i was woring on one of my own planets, but the name, improvements and useable tiles don'ty match. its like the name of my planet is shown but with the improvements of the AI planet that flipped. sometimes i will even see 2 starports on the same screen. Arrrgggh. so when i click on an improvement i dont even know what planet im doing it on. If i hit done, they both close and I've already had it happen that i missed the name of theflipped plaet and so im serching the galaxy for it.
