Seems like a pretty large update in size

Doesn't seem to be on SDC yet. Where did you see it?

I updated in 45 seconds. It will be ineresting to see if this changes any of the bad behavior I've been seeing in Windows Vista.

drrider: I thought the same thing. I expanded the Galciv2 plus-sign, and just Dark Avatar had a beta update available.

Still no joy. Maybe I need to change Stardock servers...but I never have figured out how to do that.

Tips?

Oops! Gotta take the family out for nosh. No rush.

Try flipping the beta flag on and off on SDC.

Do you have show prerelease on?
The game's main screen reads "1.7 Dark Avatar beta 1". Yet the Stardock "Installed" field reads "1.70[b].003". Is this ("beta 1" vs "[b].003")correct?

drrider: to change your Stardock server, start up Stardock and go to Tools | Settings | Internet. Under Available Servers, hit the "Refresh List" button. Then choose the other server.

Is there a .info file on what's been tweaked?

That's just the working name vs the formal version name. Same kinda thing happened with the 1.6 betas.

BTW, all. Thanks for the help. When we came back from Arby's, I could finally see the update via SDC. Currently attempting to break game and find fault and nitpic.

BTW, did y'all fix the problem with planet rings?

That is, planet rings DO NOT give the 10% bonus to research that the manual says they are supposed to.

I am getting constant crashes now.   I had just downloaded the update 1.7. I thought if I started a new game it might resolve the issue, but it is still happening.

Really? Is this with the new beta?

Because Iztok and I have independently tested this on multiple occasions with DA 1.61, and it does not occur. It doesn't show up in the research totals on any screen, nor is it 'invisibly' deducted from treasury, nor does it change the rate at which the crrent research topic becomes available.

Note that the 10% manufacturing bonus from a moon DOES work.

Nope. I just checked, with the new beta. The bonus research points for rings are not produced / added to totals.

Sir Nasty,
You may be being fooled by the list of bonuses on the planet details screen. It is true that the Details screen lists the Ring bonus of +10% Reseach of any planet with rings. However, if you examine the total points actually produced, eliminating all other sources of bonuses, extra points etc., you can see that the bonus points are not added in.

my game crashed too... what folder is the error report in?
Those getting crashes:

Please install 'SmartException' from the free stuff section in Stardock Central. Make sure that SE is running and start your game as normal. If the game crashes it will generate an exception report that can be emailed to gc2bugs@stardock.com.

Include with the email a description of what you were doing at the time, how to reproduce the crash if possible, a zipped save if applicable when you send an SE log to gc2bugs, and the appropriate debug.err file for DL or DA. The devs cannot help if you do not provide these details!

If SE does not automatically pop up and prompt you to send the report when the game crashes, you can find it at C:\Program Files\Stardock\SmartException (it will be the newest file with a .CRA extension).

I played for a couple of hours last night with no problems (outside of having my head handed to me ). I'm on Vista Ultimate (x86) with an NVidia graphics card.

Any word on the next beta?

I can't play the game I have now because it always dies on my next turn.
