DL 1.5 Minor Race Over Threw My Empire?

I got a message that the "Fundamentalist" minor race had been created. It said that they had over thrown several of my planets. Well, I only had two planets at this point, and guess what? They over threw them both! I hit end turn and that was it, I had been instantly defeated by this minor race! Is this normal or has it ever happened to anybody else?

If it is of any relevance, I had encountered one of those moral choices just before this happened. It was the one where the government is being made fun and blamed for stuff by the citizens of my empire. I chose the evil option, and then on the next turn (or was it the same turn, I can't remember) I get the Fundamentalist overthrow of both (aka ALL) of my planets.

Hi!
I got a message that the "Fundamentalist" minor race had been created.

That's the price of being Evil, you know. Next time disable minors, and you'll be safe.

That's a harsh way to end the game...
I've had before that I lost 2 planets to that minor extremist race in the same fashion, but at least I still had a few left. I didn't know it was even possible that they took all your planets.

Choosing the evil option in that random event increases loyalty by 20%. The event is:

Contempt towards the government has become trendy amongst younger citizens in the empire, blaming all problems, big and small, on the choices we've made. 'Galactic Tyrant (Player Name)' is a common nickname people use when referring to you, and we've been mocked in countless jokes. 'What do you get when you mix thieves, liars, and jack-asses? Why, the (Civilization Name) Government!' While this is hopefully a passing phase, a continued lack of domestic support will be viewed as a major weakness.

What should we do?

Good Option: We live in a free society and our citizens should be allowed to express their feelings however they wish. (-10% Diplomatic Power)

Neutral Option: Encourage teachers and parents alike to teach the younger generation of the more positive aspects of our nation. We should all live under leadership that we are proud of!

Evil Option: Throw any juveniles that disrespect our empire in jail for disloyalty. I will not allow them to make the (Civilization Name) into the butt of their jokes! (+20% Loyalty)

Technically, I don't think this will cause you to get overthrown by the fanatically Good Fundamentalists, but if you consider realism, it will.

There was a similar coincidence some time ago when undead zombies spread over someone's empire since they chose the Good option. Here's the thread..

Maybe there's some secret hard-coding in the game that causes some ethical events to have unforeseen hidden consequences...

Then maybe not.

Just remembered that I certainly voted for the Neutral option on that question, and I still got the Fundamentalist event. And I have no idea whether the question and the event are related in any way.

I have a couple questions.

When a minor race infests your empire, does it always overthrow exactly two planets?

Can more than one minor race invest your empire at the same time?

No way. At one point the fundamentalists took 72 of my 203 colonies. I had to re-conquer them all, and jeez, what a pain that was.
