Minor races, ship tracking and enemy detection

I've just started playing GC2 : Dread Lords and whilst it is in many regards a good game, I can't help but feel it's more sprawling and less focused than the original OS/2 GC2 Gold.

In particular I'm having problems with

1) The Jesuins. What's going on? This 'peaceful' minor race likes nothing better than to spy and try and pound the crap out of everyone. As it's a minor race I can't spy on them, or try to destabilise them, either!

2) Ship tracking. This is probably me overlooking an easy way I can find ships in my fleet. Where is it in the interface?

3) Enemy detection. I'd like some notice that hostile ships are approaching mine without having to endlessly scroll around the map. Surely there must be a better way?

4) Galaxy size - what does everyone use? Medium doesn't seem to be large enough, as it tends to lead to very few habitable planets. I've at most managed Earth, Mars and two others.

The actual operation of the game, and the visuals, are highly impressive, however!

1) I've never seen a minor race become anything significant. Although if the have one planet to your four, they could do okay. Yeah, you can't spy on them, and there is no destabilization in GC2, but a direct attack would work fine.

2) Press F1 for the ship list. Or it's the first big button on the bottom of the main screen, then switch from the planet list to the ship list.

3) I think the easiest way to find enemy ships is to zoom out to the icon display, and look for the enemy's color.

4) I think medium size is good if you make habitable planets fairly common, and play against three to five opponents instead of all of them. Bigger galaxies are good for more opponents, or lower planet density.

1. never seen any minor race do anything significant oter then trade me techs

2. i think there is a find or next button on the edisplay that transport you to the next "unused ship"

3. never really had this problem.

4. i usaly play on huge and put evrything on dense and 10 players inn all.

but then i have only played 2 games and not yet ended any of them

but i got 96 planets and 1 trillion ppl on my latest game so i think it is going okey. if only does pesky sentient robots coulde leav me alone for a few rounds....

3.) Enemy Detection: I think for this step you can place scout ships at certain areas where you might think enemy ships would be travelling and set them on "Sentry." You can do this by selecting the ship and pressing S or double clicking on a ship and selecting sentry as one of the functions.
I think by doing this you will be centered on the ship that spots another race's ship when you finish using all your move spaces on a ship you are controlling manually or if you finish a turn.
