WindowBlinds 6 Beta Feedback

WindowBlinds 6 Beta Feedback

Please post all feedback about the WindowBlinds 6 beta on this thread.

Note that the beta is for 32 bit XP and Vista systems only.  Please do not post about it not working on 64 bit XP/Vista.  Please continue to use WB 5.51 on those platforms.

This beta is for Object Desktop customers ONLY.  Standalone WindowBlinds 5 owners will not be able to activate this build.

Please note that you must have Stardock Central 2.46 Build 154 or later to install the WindowBlinds 6 betas. If you try and use older versions, it'll eventually timeout and give you an error about an invalid URL.

If you have problems with it running at all, please uninstall WB6, reboot and then try reinstalling WB6 again.

*sigh* well dang.. alright...

I don't quite understand why you have to be a Object Desktop owner if you are a subscriber and/or bought the product but I will have to accept it

I apologize for not reading the "Red Text" that stated the Object Desktop only thing...

Thanks

I just added the red text.

The reason it is OD only is because no WB standalone customer has bought WB6 as you cannot buy it right now.

The only glitch I had was the SDC update went not-responding but must have completed the update anyway. I restarted it, it uninstall 5, installed 6.......but I rebooted before I let it "use the program" Working good for me!

Vista install went as expected and all works very well - all controls function properly!

Great work Stardock team!
Ready for SKS 6 ... go go go !

Thanks, Neil, I think that did the trick. My skins are working again now. That dragon's pretty cool, and it goes well (coincidentally) with my Witch-King of Angmar wallpaper from LotR: Return of the King.

Did you get the email, Neil? I wasn't sure if I got it right.

Only problem I've seen is that my toolbar in windows is completely black. Anyone else seeing this?

Re: 'Note that the beta is for 32 bit XP and Vista systems only.'

Can I ask a dumb question about the above? Where do I check to make sure that my computer is 32 bit?

Thank you

In Vista you can look in the Computer(My Computer) properties.

Karmat, the odds are overwhelming you're using a 32-bit OS. Right click on your My Computer/Computer icon and select Properties. On Vista, it'll explicitly mention "System Type: 32-bit Operating system" (or 64). I think XP will also indicate it in a similar fashion, but I'm not rebooting tonight to check.

You really really have to work to get a 64-bit version of Windows installed still (doesn't tend to come preloaded), so you probably are on 32-bit.

Nice Job on WB 6 -

The Animation on the Start Panel for Molten was really interesting -
(*Thought - what about adding the ability to add Widgets there ? like a clock / weather/stock ticker?)

The installation for me was just fine -

SDC had a new version - installed - restarted.

It said I had WB 5.5 and needed to uninstall - it did - rebooted - as required.

Went back to SDC and installed WB6 - didnt need to reboot -just launched WB6

Very nice

One little thing I am noticing with the Blur feature (*which is very slick on XP)
It will blur everything that is behind the Title bar - EXCEPT for Other Title Bars - so if I have 2 windows opened, one on top of the other - you can see both Titles clearly - :>?

That dragon's pretty cool,

Ditto.(start menu of Molten skin by ChaNinja for those who have not checked it out yet)

Was nice to see the new skins by Stardock Design included. Brad has been showing off Diamond for awhile now in preview shots.

i to had no problems installing the beta WB 6, as with everyone i had to uninstall WB5.5 first and be exposed to a naked windows (quite horrifying really, i am scarred for life)
but after that the install went beautifully and all is working as it should be. i love the new transparency features and can only congratulate stardock on yet another fine products (spontaneous applause)

Any reason SDC isn't prompting for updates? I have 2.24 & it hasn't offered up an update in ages. I have it set to check & prompt in Settings. Check for Application Updates says nothing about SDC itself.

Is the currently downloadable SDC on Stardock.net the correct version?

WB 6 was working fine until I just saw another update and upgraded to 5.90[b].002 and now all I can get is Windows Aero.

Too late to edit; if only 2 windows open active window has no blur when over titlebar of inactive. If split it half and half, will have blur over toolbar icons but no blur over overlapped titlebars. With skin with transparent maxed titlebar, have one window maxed, blur is there, when max a second window, blur is gone.

5.90[b].021 worked great. With 5.90[b].022 I only get windows aero.

Is the trans control for start menu just a Vista thing or should it work on my XP. Trans control for taskbar, window frames and menus work fine.

WB6 is working great here. It even seems to load skins faster in the config window and apply them faster as well.

I do have one gripe though. The transparency (at least for my skin of choice currently) doesn't seem to work at all. I'm using "aerial" by danillOC. The taskbar is transparent no matter what settings I choose to apply. Does this mean I have to go into SKS and change the attributes for the taskbar image or is this a "bug/feature" ? It's not a major thing either way, but I don't want a transparent taskbar unless the skin is designed that way. And aerial is so nice sleek and black with no transparency.

Thanks for any insight you can give for this dilemma.

Besure the auto archive check box is selected if there is a problem you can fall back to the earlier release's that way. If not - oh well... good luck it is a beta release remember that - always make sure you have good backups and all your system is ready for a beta install.

No problems on install here.

Wondering that myself.

All seems to works fine for me under XP and Vista box. Except one thing: If you don't backup your themes, the upgrade process delete VectorCell and others themes.

Good works Stardock team!
