WindowsBlinds and SkinStudio

Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering before I make a purchase decision on WindowsBlinds, does WindowsBlinds come with SkinStudio or do I need to purchase SkinStudio seperately?

There is a free version of SkinStudio along with a pro version.

Ah, so then the new SkinStudio 6, will that be a Free, Standard, or Pro version?

I figured it out, never mind that question.

One other question, both purchases of WB and SS includes only 1 year of updates or is it lifetime free updates? And if it is only 1 year free updates, would we have to pay another $20 for each program for another year's worth of updates?

it's kind of a subscription for 1 year. for me it has been cheaper to get all the programs i want by getting object desktop which includes most of Stardock's UI programs - not just the lesser free ones. it also includes the most recent Vista versions and skinstudio pro. not a bad deal for $50 a year (and much cheaper than gettin each program separately)

As stated in the eSupport knowledgebase - "If you bought WindowBlinds on it's own you will be eligible for all updates until the next major version change. For example, if you bought WindowBlinds 3.0, you would be able to get WindowBlinds 3.3 now, and 3.4 in the future, but not 4.0 or later versions."

Those who purchase WindowBlinds 5 at this time will get version 6.0 without additional cost.

As was said I would recommend taking a look at Object Desktop.  You are going to get the applications you are looking for, plus others like DesktopX and Iconpackager just to name a couple.  You get the updates and any new Object Desktop software for the length of your subscription (1 year), and at the end of that year you can keep what you have, or renew for a discounted price.  Object Desktop subscribers also get the benefit of trying out the newest betas before anyone else.

Hmm, I originally just wanted WB but after finding a almost-replica of Vista's interface GUI, I wanted to get SS as well to modify it so it comes as close to Vist's GUI as possible (of course without the widget sidebar). I'm not sure I will make use of any of the other programs like DX and such.

I will take a more in-depth look into Object Desktop unless someone can pursuade me into the benefits of the other programs besides WB and SS included within it.

If you want it to look as close to Vista as possible you will need to invest in Icon Packager which is included in Object desktop

Well I went ahead and purchased the Object Desktop suite (w/ my coupon as well ). Overall, I am fairly satisfied. I only wish there was a program to modify or change the default XP logon screen (w/ out modifying the APIs or "hooking").

Overall, I've already made some personal changes to the Black Vista v3 skin so it more resembles Vista. I don't plan on (re?)releasing this skin (all credit goes the UncleRob for the original).

It's simply amazing how many extras you can add to XP with Stardock's OD.
