Bought DA - Now multiplayer in the next expansion?

So, I finally caved and bought DA for my birthday. As always excellent, though the espionage thing seems a bit iffy. I haven´t had yet the time to really get into a huge map and I´m wondering what happens when you go to war with more than one civ... do you get swamped by spies?

Anyway, now that I´ve plunked down my dollars for the product and have played it for a good while, I again came down with this fierce desire to play together with friends. So, will the next expansion cover multiplayer, and more importantly, hotseat multiplayer? And when will any next expansion come out, anyway? I´d really like to know.

A second expansion and any features one may contain hasn't been announced yet.

Also, I think there is a sticky thread regarding "What About Multiplayer?"

You mean that one which has been there from day one and says "We´ll see about it"? ^^ Kinda outdated, y'know.

So, Kryo, when can we expect to hear anything about the next expansion? The site has been kinda slow on updates lately, anyway.

*Edit* Oh, hey, there is talk about the expansion in that interview on the front page. When can we have details? I´ll put my vote for multiplayer here again.

No sooner than *I* hear about it, at least

I'd like to say again, the main reason why no multi-player in an expansion is the lack of interest in that feature. Show Stardock some numbers (when asked, there has been several polls already from pre DA days even). I believe not enough people have said yes at the right time or perhaps just gave too much credit to a few long threads where it seemed like "lots" were interested in it.

Personally, I know I am not a big fan of the idea. It's the fact that I usually save my progress and quit. I'll play again tomorrow night and do the same thing till I finish. I will also say the case has been made that good AI can work for substitute of human players.

MP would be useless to me, so any expansion pack where that was the primary addition wouldn't be worth buying IMO.

Well, no AI can replace my friend playing beside me in a hotseat game. Unless the devs can integrate social commentary into the game. ^^

And for my case, I waited months to buy DA, just because I wanted to see if anything about multiplayer would materialize. An expansion which features such would be an insta-buy for me.

I remember well the initial interviews for Dread Lords, where it was mentioned several times that while multiplayer wasn´t part of the game for now, the internal structure to add it was already in place ( or somesuch similar... it´s not an exact quote ). So while it would incur development time, multiplayer *can* be done. Hopefully it´ll include Hotseat.

No offense, but if any of my old gaming buddies were still close enough that they could come over to my place to play a game, we'd be playing board games, not computer ones. For me the whole purpose of a PC game is to provide entertainment when gaming with friends isn't available.

I wouldn't mind Multi-player, I understand why the devs haven't done it yet though.

Now about that second expansion... Brad mentioned something about a second expansion in his interview with Gameasutra, didn't he?

yeah I just found it...

What was the inspiration behind the recent graphical revamp? Was that in response to fan demand?

For the most part, we wanted to future-proof the game. We know we won’t get to a Galactic Civilizations III for some years and we wanted to make sure fans of Galactic Civilizations II wouldn’t feel like their game was dated.

We’re working on a second expansion pack that will take this concept further.

was that brad mispeaking, and meaning a second patch (I.E. 1.7?) or did he let slip something real?

Well, as I´ve got a lot of gaming buddies who live nearby, we like to game together on a regular basis. Most of the times it´s Dungeons & Dragons, but sometimes we start up Master of Orion 2. Doing the same with GalCiv 2 would be what I want... hotseat multiplayer.

And in the interview the next expansion is even mentioned by name... Galactic Civilizations II: Expanded Universe.

Oh heck, that even sounds like a multi-player add-on title. Okay Brad, spill the beans so we can nip this in the bud, whats going on?

I would love to play multiplayer. But it would have to be balanced and not slapped on. In fact the AI's and human styles are so different that they would have to revamp the tech tree and make tons of other changes. In fact it would be a totally different game.

Honestly, I´d be happy to just play the game in hotseat just like it is now. Note, in hotseat with buddies... playing "competitive" on the net would probably really need a massive rebalancing.

"Expanded Universe" didn´t sound really like a multiplayer expansion to me, just like loads of new races and stuff, but now that I think it over...

And what´s that with "nipping it in the bud"?

I meant before wild speculation takes off about whats going on. and honestly, I would like some details (I just got married and have to prioritize my money...)

Tell me about it... I´m living on an empty purse, too. But for hotseat, I´d shell it out as soon as the paycheck hits.

same for me (i'd probably even pre-order to help with the beta if they did it like last time)

Folks, I would sell personal stuff if necessary to immediatelly buy a new expansion!   so price really does not matter...
In my opinion we will not see any multiplayer one, it's too difficult to get it working, but a second GalCiv2 expansion will make my century.
