GalCiv2 Dread Lord Campaign no fun :(

I'm probably in the minority but I find the Dread Lord main campaign (I think it's the Dark Avatar campaign, not sure) no fun at all. It's too darn hard and there seems to be no way to turn the difficulty down. For instance I'm on the Apocalypse mission and if I turn down the difficulty all it seems to do is make my AI allies useless, it doesn't seem to affect the dread lords at all.

It's probably just my personal preference but I just don't like playing missions where my ships are totally outclassed at the beginning and it gets harder from then on! At least I would have like to have had a way to turn down the difficulty so I could slowly learn some strats for taking on the dreadlords and then later on when I get better turn up the difficulty.

Just my 2 cents...

I think the DL sandbox game is much more fun than the DL campaign (and I've read many posts that agree). As a result I skipped the campaign in DA.

I played that mission back in spring 2006 under DL 1.0X on level tough. I remember reading a post that increasing the difficult level make it easier as it makes your AI allies more useful. Try playing the factories only strategy (build only factories instead of factories and labs, then set research spending to 0 and focus on each planet to research).

I agree. However, for me, it's the lack of continuity that turns me off of the campaigns. Every single mission you have to start over. The missions need to be more progressive. I shouldn't have to research warp drive 6 different times, every single mission. It makes the game feel stale and repetitive. It also doesn't make me care about my empire since the next mission it all starts over. Every campaign mission I just find myself trying to get it over as quickly as possible, not really fun.

The campaigns aren't fun at all. You have to keep researching the same boring techs over and over again.
