GalCiv II : Gold campaign problem

I started the dread lords campaign with the humans, but can never research trade. It's not even on the tech tree, but when I start a "new game" skirmish with the exact same setup, I can research trade. Anyone have a fix or know the reason for this? It's almost impossible to have 2 planets only and keep a green economy without any trade.

AFAIK not all techs are available in the campaign. As you progress through the mission, you can research farther up the tech tree.

The tech tree is intentionally limited during most of the campaign.
ObjectDock - Access shortcuts and frequently used applications from an animated dock.
