WB has stopped all skinning

Since 5.51 update WB has stopped all skinning

Hope someone here can help,

Downloaded the update for WindowBlinds to take it to 5.51. Rebooted me PC and now it has stopped skinning altogether. I have tried to revert to an archived 5.50 but it keeps saying that it can't and loads the 5.51 back up again.

My OS is WinXP SP2

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 5 (5.51 (build 97 x86))

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

ksteffan - what do you mean WB stopped skinning? Is it starting in Windows classic mode? I had this problem until I forced the Windowblinds service to start.

Check your services list and see if the Stardock Windowblinds service is starting. If it's not, that's probably the problem. Find the thread "Adding the Windowblinds Service Manually." It's just a few threads down. Follow those instructions and see if that fixes the problem.

I don't know what it is, but there's something with version 5.51 that's conficting with a few systems. Are you using Bitdefender (AV or Suite) by any chance?

Keep us posted.

Looks like something got borked, I would suggest an uninstall then reinstall. Would also suggest running something like CCleaner before reinstall. Would also suggest downloading Stardock Central, if not already using it, and register and install WB with it.

It looks like some of your WindowBlinds dates are not correct and this may have appened during the update. Try un-installing WindowBlinds and reboot. After rebooting install WindowBlinds and reboot again.

Post the System Information file again after you have completed this process to confirm proper file dates.

Hi again guys,

I have un-installed and reinstalled WB. I have stopped the service and run the WB service manually after applying the registry fix given and restarted the service and still... nothing.

:o(

What I have noticed however is that when I go into the WB folder, the install log mentions a WBSrv.exe but instead, the folder contains WBVista.exe and VistaSrv.exe. I am running XP SP2 so is this just a rename of the apps by Stardock or is Stardock Central messing up?

After the re-install, system info is now...

Again, thanks for any help you guys can give

There is a later version of WindowBlinds released in June. To get the latest, be sure to check mark "Show pre-release versions" and to "Auto-archive on application update".

Have reloaded the 5.51.025 again and no luck still.

The system info has changed and that is all...

I still don't understand why the .exe files are named "WBVista.exe" and "VistaSrv.exe" in this new version of WB.

Can anyone provide me with access to the previous version of WB ( I think it was from back in March)? This did work, but since loading up the 5.51.025, none of my archived files will load.

Thanks,

K

You will need to contact support@stardock.com

Please contact support@stardock.com and reference this forum post also. They will be able to fix this issue.

You might need to clean out your files.. Go into Computer and Programs and then to Stardock. Make sure that the old WindowBlinds is not there. Then clean out your files and clean out you computer with cCleaner which you can get on download.com.. That might help..

ksteffan - please keep us posted on what worked. I'm curious. None of my Windowblinds files have the word Vista in them. I'm running XP SP2 like you. I don't have access to a Vista system so I don't know if the word Vista is inserted during a Vista installation. I've isntalled both with SDC and by using the WindowBlinds executible and both installs went well once I got past the services problem I mentioned above.

Good luck. I know how frustrating these things can be

C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds

view > arrange by type and show in groups

then in the applications you'll see the vistasrv and wbvista
i believe they're put there automatically - as I don't have vista and there isn't a separate 'WB for Vista' -- so I guess it's so WB can install/run on xp or vista

That is correct.

I've noticed that there is a lot of problems with Window Blinds 5.51.025 I had a lot of problems with it also nothing major just Irritating problems. After doing ALL of the Above I decided to go back to Window Blinds 4 4.6 (build 215)and EVERYTHING works Fine.It will also install skins made for 5.51 including the Eminence Skin. I will retry 5.51 if and when stardock checks out these problems. My OS is also WinXP service pack2

Good Luck

Bichur/Hankers - the Vista files you refer to must be added when you install via SDC. They're not on my system. I use the XP Windowblinds Enhanced installer.

Beeswax - 5.51.025 is the first Stardock application I've had trouble with. I've got it installed now ... FINALLY. I learned alot working through the installation problems, but must admit my confidence has been shaken and future vesions will be installed with far more trepedation. Not necessarily bad mind you

5.49j seems to have no issues on XP. If you have an archive of that, worth using rather than 4.46. 5.50 introduced some niggling painting issues here that persist in 5.51, so I've stuck with 5.49 for now.
